Kenpachi Zaraki wip

After watching some anime series , i thought of doing one of the characters from bleach as a side project in my so limited spare time :<

I’ll try to do a full body for him , so far I started on his head/hair and finished his sword.

here’s what i got so far:

Normal version and a cartoon shader through photoshop over it.

he doesnt even know the name of his own weapon! hehe nice work keep at it

He’s looking pretty good so far. I think he needs to be more angular and the scar more pronounced;

Also, isn’t he the one who runs around with the little pink haired girl on his shoulder? (Yachiru)

Hi , thank you for the comments.

I tried to make him a bit more angular and i took out the scar in the model (i’ll take care of it with a texture)

more angular : mouth corners , eye patch

Some progress on clothing/body and the sword.

I’m still having major issues, it looks more doll like then i would like it too.
I could use some pointers on modeling folds in cloth and where they occur mostly. I’ve thought about finding some cloth laying around and trying to put it in a similar position to study the folds it makes ;p
Perhaps also something to do with proportions , but something is still off.

Any C&C appreciated , thank you.

i love watching bleach, good to see someone attempting to do a 3d model…i think you should turn off x symmetry when sculpting the clothes…wd

I wasn’t sure about him at first, but he’s looking much better now… Ken-Chan is my favorite Bleach character, and I’ve been wanting to make him 3d for forever :P… he’s got the greatest chilled out cocky attitude of any character ever… I was kind of sad when I found someone getting to it before I could, even though it will probably be a year or more before I could possible find the time

his features are looking nice and angular now, but the scar has disappeared and there’s something off with his mouth… I guess it just looks too normal… he really has a big mouth with really sharp corners… and his mouth doesn’t curve up at all when he smiles… it just pulls straight back and forms this wide, thin, sharp, and devilish grin

also keep in mind that his body type is very tall and broad-shouldered… it makes him look very large and formidable in his robes… but we’ve seen several times that he’s actually a very scrawny build with very chiseled musculature… he almost looks stretched out and spindly… I don’t think you’re straying from that right now, but I just want to make sure you keep that in mind as you continue to build

good luck!.. I look forward to watching your progress

Thank you very much for the suggestions about the mouth and robe. I’ll try to fix them. I’ve also posted it on a bleach fan forum and they also had comments about the nose /mouth.

I guess I just have to let go of trying a semi-realistic approach and just go for as much likeness as I can and perhaps afterwards make a possible realistic version of ken.

here’s a couple good facial references for the guy… that twisted grin really makes the character, I think

Update head:

Been getting suggestions on a bleach forum , so here’s some changes applied to the head.

looking better… keep it up

I’m glad you fixed his mouth but it should be higher. Also, I think his jaw should be wider. I dunno, maybe if you got screencaps of his face at different angles, you might be more accurate.

I should note that when someone smiles, their mouth and lips rise upwards and backwards as the muscles tighten around the face.

Even his relaxed mouth line should by higher. So, when you make him smile like he is in your sculpt, the mouth line should be higher even still.

Good work so far, though.

Cheers,
Revanto :stuck_out_tongue:

looking good. i would bring the hair down a bit farther on the forehead. also i would flatten his chin instead of it coming to a point. in all the reference images supplied on this thread his chin is blocky. Also his jaw line is much straighter than what you have. It seems like you are going for a semi real approach for this sculpt? Also, the bridge of his nose could be pulled out a bit more at the top. The cheek bones could be more pronounced as well.

Looking good so far. ill keep my eye out on this one.

Some more progress on the body.
flattened the chin also , but perhaps not as visible with this full body shot.
Thanks for the comments,

Coming along very nicely. :+1: :+1:

Comment; I would make his jaw/lower-face more prominent. Looking at his profile from the manga and anime, if you draw a line from his forehead to his chin it would be at an almost 20-30 degree angle with little to no curvature. I would also widen his face and the cheekbones and sharpen the planes of the face a bit more. The chin mod and full view look great.

One more render with some progress.

render in cinema4d , all modeling in Zbrush though.

I’m working on a Cell Shader material atm.

Sorry to bump an old post, but i continued somewhat on this character in a bit of free time, so I thought I’d just add it to the bunch.

He was supposed to hold an enemy by his throat, but I never really came up with a character for that role.

If he looks a bit mad/crazy with his staring eye and smile, that’s kinda how he is in the Anime Bleach.

Thanks
