John Carter - Thark WIP

Decided to keep this separate from my sketchbook… Finally settled on an armor set and still a ways to go.

It’s currently Tal Hajus with both tusks…and wearing Tars Tarkas’ armor…so perhaps prior to John Carters arrival…

I will probably start mannequin poses soon.

Comments & critique are welcomed.

Nice you made the second set of arms feel at home on the torso, i think thats hard to do, good job, nice sculpt!

Thanks, happy to hear the anatomy is decent…was interesting to do. Pretty lucky that zbc had so much reference material from the last 2 john carter interviews.

Wow, really cool Thark!

I can just concur, really nice job on the whole Thark Character. The anatomy is looking crisp to me and the overall forms and shapes are great.:+1:
The body armour are looking clean aswell! Keep it going, looking forward to the end result!
Cheers and have fun sculpting,

Small update from the past few lunch hours…

This is looking good mate. Could you describe your clay material and maybe render setup in those first few posts? That clay is looking quite natural. Thanks!

Thanks Chris. Here is the render setup I had for the clay renders. I think my key light was 0.75 when I did the renders but I bumped it up to 1. I also adjusted my gamma to 1.25 under the Render > Adjustments. Hope that helps you out, loved your last piece ‘the grenadier’ - very dynamic and well done!

Thanks Kevin! And this is very helpful indeed. Materials are my weaker area in ZBrush right now. I’ve leaned on mat caps for way to long.

I really appreciate this breakdown, and I’ll be keeping an eye on the progress here at this WIP for sure.

I can just concur with Chris. Really nice progress sofar man, getting crisper and crispter!:+1: Definently looking forward seeing your progress on this WIP
Thanks for sharing a break down of your lightcap settings, much appreciated buddy!
Cheers,

  • Kenny:)
