It's not easy being green...

Hi again you devilishly talented artists out there…

Here’s my latest WIP. He’s NOT the Hulk, but I am using green Matcap because…well…I wanna. So there. Thanks to Graphite for the awesome MatCap.

Crits/comments not only encouraged, but downright demanded. Hah! Enjoy!

Looks really awesome, but the legs kind of bother me a bit. I’m not sure if it’s intentional or not, but your quads are shorter than the shins.
I think it would look better if you stretch the quad down some more. Aside from that, I thikn it looks really awesome and stylized. There are some parts that needs to be touched up though. For example, the quads. The crevices between the muscles are kind of lumpy(not sure if its intentional or not) but it looks like you were really busy trying to smoothe that part or something.

I absolutely love the crotch up and the feet. He looks like a super mutated super villain. Looking forward for an up rez of this with some texture work.

Thank you Anhslaught. You are right, didn’t see the error with the quads being too short. Good eye.

The quads were, however, meant to look as though the muscle fibres are visible, thereby appearing somewhat “lumpy”. Probably more work needed here as well.

Thanks again for the constructive and helpful crit. MUCH appreciated.

-Scott

Elongated the quads a tad, and gave them more detail. Any better?

OH NO NOT ANOTHER HULK!!!

(just kidding)

nice work so far MontanaMan a few anatomy tweaks to make but it’s well on it’s way.

Hey MontanaMan

The legs and feet are the best looking right now i find.
Arms and head have a blobby look and the arms look very incorecct
especially lower part.
The hands are looking a bit twitchy at the moment.
You should smooth out some and add a extra skin layer over the muscles
as in filling up the deep ridges with clay tubes brush and a low intensity
at a lower subdivision.

Have a look at this thread. It is also a big hands big feet character
hes just a little smaller. Compare his anatomy with yours and try to go
into a similar direction.
Of course your not supposed to copy it one to one but reference is the most
important thing when doing such a muscular character as randomly placed
muscles ant wrong proportions pop into the eye directly.

Keep up the nice work and thy for the comment

the one really noticeable thing is the weird horizontal lines that run across the upper legs.

Again, a BIG thanks to everyone for their valuable crits. Here’s an update. Fixed the goofy lines on the quads, tweaked the forearm and started working on hands. Hopefully going in the right direction.

hey. You obviously have some talent. However, it looks as though you are “faking it” with some of the anatomy.

For example: The leg muscles (quads) are close, yet off a bit. The sartorius muscle (which bisects the upper leg starting from the hip, and ending inside the thigh just above the knees) is absent. It is not always pronounced in most anatomy studies, however in a hyper-realistic depiction like this, you would probably see it, either way, this muscle has a large impact on the overall shape of the leg, and should be considered. The rectus femoris muscle is way to high on the thigh. This muscle has a large tendon connected to it that covers over the patella.

There are some other issues with the anatomy, but im trying not to go overboard. Have a good anatomy reference nearby at all times  Also, I have bought muscle magazines in the past and even though they are not ideal as anatomy references, they do help put some of the confusing bits into context, like the quads or the muscles and the surface anatomy in the back.

Just trying to help. Like I said, you have the talent, just a touch up on your anatomy. Hope this helps.

them quads are a lot lot lot better now dont know what else to say other than great work

kansuke - Thank you for the anatomy corrections. You are absolutely correct, this model was drawn completely from memory…no reference images whatsoever, so indeed, I was “faking it” somewhat.

BillyT - thank you for the encouragement as well.

Here’s a quick update to the legs. Hopefully, I am on the right track. As always, comments/crits appreciated.

Okay, time to move on. Here are the final renders of this mesh. Highly stylized and photoshop post-work, but no polypainting whatsoever. Comments welcome and thanks for looking.
