is there a simple Fill Hole function??

is there is a simple fill hole function in 4R6 ?

I cut open my mesh using mask > polygroup by mask > hide group > delete hidden

now I have a gaping hole and i want a simple effective way to fill it.

I first tried isolating the hole with a mask and then “close holes” but this leave holes around my masking area!!

surely there is a simple fill hole function like in other programs, allowing you to select the edge of a hole, for example, and fill it

hoping so…

Why did you cut it open? Nothing there to see  Dynameshing it would probably fix the holes followed by smoothing or Polish. Perhaps a different method to get the desired geometry would be even better.

hehe there was a weird polygon artifact going on that smooth could seem to fix so i decided to just cut out the part that was giving me trouble.

yes dynamesh fixes it but i don’t want to dymamesh my whole model. i was hoping there was just a simple fill hole function, you know, just click on the hole edge and BOOM it’s filled. i’d suggest that as an update to the next version

Tool->Geometry->Modify Topology->Close Holes

It only works on models without any sub-division levels and it might not give you the results you want, but it’s there.

thanks, but as i said, i found “close holes” to be problematic because when i masked out my area with the hole and then filled it, there were small holes left around the edge of my mask area

Shouldn’t need to mask to fill holes. No screen grabs with wireframes. There may well be a better method of making your model.

Ok thanks for your advice Doug, I appreciate it

Also you might want to look into the Alternate smoothing method, that might fix your problematic area. It uses a different algorithm to smooth and I’ve noticed it works great on peaks and pointed areas that the normal smooth won’t fix. To do the alternate smooth just select your smooth brush like normal, then while holding smooth (Shift) start your smooth stroke then release the shift key without lifting your brush off the model it will use the alternate smoothing method.

Info Found here: http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/sculpting/sculpting-brushes/smooth/

A new Smoothing Algorithm The Smooth brush includes an alternative algorithm, added to create a better result on the poles of the topology of the model (when a vertex shares 3, 5, 7, etc edges).
To access this new smoothing mode:

  1. Press Shift and start smoothing.
  2. >
  3. Let go Shift without releasing the mouse.
  4. >

ZBrush will automatically switch to the new algorithm. This Smoothing algorithm is enabled in all the smooth brushes.

oh wow i had no idea about this, thanks mentalfrog
