Inverted lasso knife

inverted lasso knife,
What is interesting is that it works correctly on the sphere, but on my sword model it works inverted,
What is interesting is that it works correctly on the sphere, but on my sword model it works inverted,
even though in both cases dynamesh is used, I tried pressing alt, but the result is the same. What could be the problem?
knife curve works

Hi @dastan,

Keep in mind with the Knife Lasso that the direction you draw the lasso in will also change the results. A clockwise motion will produce a different result than a lasso marquee drawn with a counter-clockwise motion. It will invert the direction the geometry is subtracted from. This could account for getting different results in different situations.

Otherwise I couldn’t speculate without more information. It’s always possible there is a problematic aspect to one of the models that is producing unexpected results. If the above doesn’t explain your problem, I recommend contacting support and providing the model for examination.

Thank you!

Thank you for your reply, if I may clarify,
that I need to rotate the object to use the tool correctly?
imagine the knife horizontally in gynamesh
and I need to cut pieces from the blade to simulate impact chips.

Not necessarily, although changing your screen view may give you a better angle at the target area.

Try this:

  1. Load the Dog.zpr from Lightbox.

  2. With the Knife lasso, draw a circle around the dog’s head from right to left (clockwise motion). This will cut away everything but the head.

  3. Ctrl-Z, then draw the circle around the head in a Left to right (counter-clockwise) motion. This will cut away the head itself.

So the simplest possibility is that you are drawing the lasso in a different direction for the different models, and this is causing the action to invert itself. Pressing Alt during the stroke will invert whatever the default action is for the direction you are drawing the lasso.

thank you very much for the clear instructions!
