I am realy depressed about the delay in the new windows opperating system “Longhorn”. It is going to be the release where alot of manufacturers will include drivers for 64-bit systems. (I just want the drivers I could care less about enhanced multimedia rubbish, I dont watch movies sitting at my desk. and I refuse to have the possibility of someone hacking my system and seeing what I watch on TV, they should just go to porn sites like normal people)
I sent Email to WACOM and they say they will not be releaseing anything for 64 bit windows untill 6 months after the release of long horn (

Anyways they are going to be releaseing the new MS file system with the “Longhorn” release…
This “New Improved” File system is the same Crappy old system with a few new search tools included.
The file system will still Fragment files in your filesystem, and you will be stuck still de-fragging your system, and possibly loosing data.
Why dose windows fragment files? well a few month ago I read an interesting BLOG paper from a ex-microsoft employee. (which should only be taken for a grain of salt, he was pretty upset, and may have been lieing for vengance, or he may not even be an employee, just some kid who dosent like microsoft, and knows how to use a blogger)
it is to promote people to buy new hardware and computers according to this so called Ex-employee … the computers will seem to “degrade” and “wear out” to new users… the new user will then be depressed and be prompted to buy more memory, faster hard disks and newer systems. (this is why I de-frag nightly, and re-format every 2 months, linux I dont have to do any of this sillyness, it is fast when I install and it is same speed months later)…
it is funny, when you talk to DELL tech support about speeding up your system they will try to sell you RAM, new processors, hard disks,and new commputers, before they will tell you to format often (THEY WILL NEVER TELL YOU TO FORMAT,Unless the OS is Broken), and De-frag after each use (every day, they say once or twice a month.)
Unix has had a non-fragmenting file system science the 1970’s, it has nothing to do with technology, or the way hard disks are made or anything like that… it is all for money (IMHO)! I bet Microsoft knew about this file system while they where ripping off unix for dos commands, and chose the way CP/M handles the filesystem to gain future leverage with hardware manufacturers. I could be wrong tho…
Anyways, I am not looking forward to this new windows too much, it wont let you modify the desktop shell, it wont let you Overclock your system (this is a stupid thing to do anyways), it wont let you access the control pannel or MyComputer from shortcut or DOS command so you are stuck useing the start button , and not able to make shortcuts from Shelf/docking software.
They also threw in a few “monkey wrenches” into being able to resize the partition and make new ones… to install linux, or make a Dual boot system, you will have to partition it with a non-microsoft OS (like knoppix). also for “security reasons” you will have to enter a password before you can boot into the windows partition (punishment for useing non-MS products) according to the blog.
I hope to GOD that people start moveing to Linux or BSD soon, I also hope that software makers start makeing more linux versions ,and hardware manufacturers make, and improve more Drivers.
I realy dont like the looks of a “Microsoft only” Opperating system. If they get all the patents for an opperating system, the would be in a position to charge people monthly, or By the minuet to use their computer… Or charge extra for the ability to run 3d applications, or use a Wordprocessor. They could make the new versions totaly modular… you have to buy plugins to send and recieve E-mail,(PLus you have to buy an Electronic stamp for each piece of mail to Help fight “americas war on SPAM” (I think it was AOL who was seriously concidering this)
a Diffrent plugin to use your Browser (which also charges you by the minuet for surfing privlages, and security extortion).
have the Open source plugin to tax people useing freeware and shareware, and open source…
A plugin for the auto update system (which also charges user by the minuet, and shipping and handeling fees)

I wish microsoft would spend as much time trying to make a Better product,as they do throwing away millions to make so they have no compitition in the future.
They call Linux Comunisem… what do you call it when there is no compitition, or choice for the consumer? or insted of competeing smashing your oppisition with Patents, lawsuits, and other government powers.
I vote as a semi-free american, for a Free Operating system, that leaves room for everyone to make money with comercial products, and still not leave the poor out in the cold. a way that Schools and collages and universitys can teach software development, and kernel development without paying the “Micro$oft” Tax.
A way that programmers that havent got enough money can make their Ideas into working programs and be able to share it freely , without corperation help or government funding.(for BIG projects like OpenOffice.org and Debian)
A way that people with the better product make better money, not the people with better patent lawyers.
