Insert random MultiMesh Z4R4 (answered)

Hi,
got a question about the randomization of InsertMeshes along a curve. Say I have got 4 different bricks that I want to get randomly applied along a curve. How do I do that ? Currently I can only get randomization to work between multiple curves (curve one receives Mesh A, Curve two Mesh B etc.) by setting the Slider to 3 in the Brush Menu.

Also is there a way to use this feature with a “Spray” Mode - think pile of nails and screws …

Thanks
Jens

  1. Make sure Curve mode is on in the Stroke palette.
  2. Make sure the first mesh (brick) you want to use is selected in the IMM pop-up (press ‘M’ on the keyboard).
  3. Set the Brush>Modifiers>Variations slider to the number of bricks you want to use, up to the total available in the IMM brush.
  4. For random selection, set the Brush>Modifiers>Variations Selector Mode slider to 3. (This is the slider to the right of the Brush>Modifiers>Variations slider.)

The image shows the results from setting the Variations Selector Mode to 0 (no variation), 1 (select forward), 2 (select backward) and 3 (random).

In my example, I only have three bricks in the brush, so the randomness is not very good. I’ve simplified things so it is easier to see what is happening.

If your IMM brush has lots of different meshes then the mesh you select in the pop-up will be the first one used and the others used will be counted forward from that mesh, up to the number selected in the Brush>Modifiers>Variations slider.

And no, currently there is no way to use the ‘Spray’ stroke.

A further note on the ‘Spray’ stroke:

What you can do is create an IMM brush that has duplicates of a mesh but at different positions/orientations. These will then give a good appearance when drawn with a curve.

Holy cow this is great!
