Import DXF 2D: Image and ZScript

Hi all,
i have developed a program to import a DXF (2D) into ZBrush…

This program reads a DXF file (version 12 or 14) and write a ZScript (.TXT file);
Running this script reproduce the DXF file on ZBrush canvas.
You can change ZScript Options within program or editing the ZScript file (.TXT).
Try with this file: GIOVANNI.zip

Download Program:
DXF_Z.zip

cameyo

p.s. Adobe Illustrator and other program can export to DXF…

That looks incredible! :+1:

My mind is spinning with possibilities.

And imagine it in conjunction with the number of polygons we will be able to use in the next version! :grimacing:

Alpha heaven!

Hi Cameyo
Are you a fan of Autocad
Question : I have believed that Zbrush has yet a DXF import ?
The DXF 3D can’t support the DXF 2D ?
(I have no try because I couldn’t make this  but now with your maybe
Bravo for your new task scripting
Pilou

Sorry Pilou,
i can’t be able to import a DXF 2D within ZBrush…i don’t want reinvent the wheel…
maybe.

cameyo

Great great app dude!! :+1:
Tnx for sharing !!

Hi Cameyo
I don’t understand your Reply
“I can’t be able to import a DXF 2D within ZBrush”
That is the subject of your Script ???
All works fine (Rezise not for me
If the drawing is fat it’s because I take a big size of brush !
If there just a half subject it’s because I have no time
Pilou
Ps If you make at the End an Alpha Make 3D you will obtain your subject in 3D !!!
Pss There is a sort of grey ghost behind :(it’s my fault) I make 2 starts

Wow, I don´t understand that much about fileformats, but this app is very useful. Especially for demousers!
I didn´t try it so far, but with e.g. CorelTrace you are able to convert an image to a vectorformat. I hope, that you can save as dxf! The possibilities are spinning around in my mind!

Thank you!

hai fatto un buon lavoro cameyo!!!
grazie per questo programma!

 (last week i was in italy!)
but this prog is great! - so many possibilities!

Hi Cameyo
From your example I have believe that DXF 2D was only works for drawing just 2D file format but see follow
Some tests
I have creating a real “Cube 3D” in Amapi (not drawing in 2D).
(With no perspective,just axonometry)
I save it without hide facet (just wire frame)
I have save it in Dxf 2D, Dxf 14, Dxf14 (+ mesh)
Only the DXF 2D was perfect !
See the “schema” above (a schema because post a big screen with just this little cube should be some comic
A schema also because the reduction hide a little the color of white sides)
As soon as I have some times I shall try with hide facets and with perspective from Amapi start
Pilou

Hi Cameyo! Great tool! I have one question: Which tecnique would be better… use this program or create bitmap images from a vector program like Illustrator? For example I can create vector drawings in illustrator and export them as an image. I can also create 2d dxf files in illustrator. Would I get the same results? Which would be better?

Again DXF 2D from Axono with “hide facets” OK !!!
Real size (deformation was in the start 3D model in Amapi
All works fine !
Pilou

Hi Mentat the seven
It’s better than you think
You can create your 3D model in 3D prog not obliged 2D!!! see above !
Of course in 2D also but…
I don’t think that you can start from a bit map ! Only 2D vectors or 3D VECTORS
The word “DXF 2D” seems deceitful  but I think that is than a “Plotter” !
So you can make any thing in 3D or 2D and the “DXF 2D” “print” the result in Zbrush !
Bravo Cameyo !
Next test : Perspective + colors
Pilou
Ps Maybe I am wrong for the bitMap
Cameyo said
“1) Convert only Point, Line, Polyline, lwPolyline, Block (Insert) entities
2) Convert only 2D coordinates (max 32000 points each entity)
3) Ignore PenUp and PenDown”
But DXF was created by Autocad and he his not known for his quality of bitmap function
BUT there is “point” in the Cameyo n°1 !
So make some try

Hi all,
Frenchy: i have developed it only for 2D DXF (no colors :frowning: )…if it works for 3D too…it’s not my choice
MentatTheSeven: If you export an image from AI you can do …well you known this better than me …
With my program you have a converter DXF -> ZScript: in this way you can select some parameters before running the script; these parameters can be set within the program itself (see figure in first post), but if you edit the ZScript (“Set” button) you can alter the parameters as you want.
More, if you export your drawing piece by piece (layer by layer or…?) you have many ZScript…and you can alter each one.
Hope this helps.
If i’m not clear…ask me again.

Thank you for trying

cameyo

Hi Cameyo
Perspective seems resist :frowning:
After some try I can say :
So, from Amapi Export a “real Perspective” by DXF 2D to Zbrush is impossible
(except as a Bmp,jpg,… but it’s not the subject here
Bravo again for this new little gem
Pilou
PS
What is function of the “Write Log file” ?

souleat: i hope you like Italy…it’s a wonderful place.

Frenchy: i wish to hire you as … beta tester…thank you for try

Mentat7: I’m glad you use this.

Thank you Froyd, Bonecradle and MrBraun for your kind words.

If anyone wants the source (Delphi 5) send me a private message.

cameyo

Hi Cameyo,

I tried your translator to script and it is great
did you notice that if you set once and than
change the brush to two and rgb to 50 you get a nice gray you can even change the color
That made me think about possibility of adding 2 knobs to the finished script
for changing some settings in save ranges
It would even be possible to do this in an addonscript wich loads the premade scripts
and halt them to interactivly change some safe settings just an Idea but the fact you are able to programm something outside
Zbrush to make it even more versatile
the sky is the limit with this
And you sure set ways open for other programmers to find more ways to do neat stuff

Thank you verry much

Hey cameyo, I love this cute application, although I hate Delfi =)

Nevertheless it gives me the possibility to “import” my scetches or other pictures into the demoversion.
I created a b/w-picture and converted it with COREL Trace into dxf.
The script drawed it on the canvas, I grabbed it and did it the alpha-century-way.
then the sweep-tool for the columns, cylinder3D for the candles and a Sphere3D for the arc at the top. then distressed it all, some gold-coloring and material-settings and the rest is setting up the light. I used 4 this time - most I ever used. No Ambient, no GDI. One sun from below, to point-lights above the candles and one glowlight at the head of the buddha-relief map.

What do you think? 121 welcome

Thank you for this great software, cameyo!
greets!

Hi Froyd
Great warm contemplative atmosphere
Have happy meditation !

Hi froyd,
wonderful image.
This is the result i like to see :+1: :+1: :+1:
I like to see that my effort are not waste of time.

Thank you for share.
