Image catalog software, which one?

Iv got hundreds of photo references and want to catalog them into a custom order.

I have from my 3d.sk account, a fair few images from different subjects, id like to beable to view them as whole volume sets or veiw by catagaorys that I can make myself according to which body parts are shown. I dont want duplicate files to be made but want say, all feet, forarms, hands e.c.t in their own catalog without moving them from their original volume set.

What program is best to do this and flexable enougth to look for the images in a directory according to its name not location.

Thanks.

digital asset management software - plenty out there
free - commercial - everything for your hearts desire

iphoto if you use mac
linux not quite sure what fits your requirements, but i am sure have seen possibie solutions
win - freeware probably

commercial - extensis portfolio, microsoft media, canto cumulus…etc pp

also lots of software for the individual image cataloger. search.

I use the former iview media - mac and win (now microsoft expression media) came with toast and jam but no coffee

ciao voolger

Personally Ive found that the Vista Windows Photo Gallery works pretty well for this. After you open a photo just click on ‘add to gallery’ and you can add the whole 3d.sk folder from your computer into it (from the menu). Of course you have to go through and label everything which is a hell of a lot of work but it keeps things organized for me.

Im using windows xp and am trying Iview but way too expensive in the uk £100+ which is way over the top for my use.

I basicly want to create a button based menu that has a button for each catagaory and whole photo sets.

Windows and Mac (Linux at Google Labs) is freebie software called Picasa @ Picasa.Google.com

Personally, I’ve been using ACDSee for years - it will do all you need to do - fast, easy, organized… you can try it out and return it if you don’t like it (twice I’ve returned paid upgrades, money back no questions asked.)

Price? $50 - downloadable software or 30-day trial @ ACDSystems.com

I used Acdsee years back and loved it as a quick image viewer but didnt know it had a catalog within it?

Can you make your own catagorys and add pics to them without making duplicates of them? In the mean time il check the new version out and see what its like. Thanks.

tez,

Absolutely yes.

You know, I haven’t really explored cataloging capabilities in ACDSee much but today I took a few minutes to set up some custom catalog categories and subcategories… then used drag and drop to quickly load them up with images. Cool. I think I’ll be using this ACDSee capability A LOT from now on! Thanks for raising the issue.

p.s. I’m still using Version 8.1 - I think they just announced Version 10.

Acdsee seems to be doing the trick. Makes things so much quicker to jump to any bodypart in one catalog while still remaining in their original photo set.

Thanks for bringing me back to a very updated application thats affordable.
