Okay, i’m sure i’m not the only one saving my hard earned pennies for the full version of ZBrush. Currently i’m a bit concerned that i’m going to run out of time to buy the current version.
It currently retails at about £200 which is a special offer - how long is this going to last?
I know you are entitled to an upgrade from the current version, but how much will the new version cost if I miss out?
Will the new version have the same (fantastic) demo limits so you can get a proper feel for the program and still want to upgrade?
Anyone else in demoland feel the same?
let’s put it this way, the next upgrade is about a couple of weeks ago (according to pix) however it will be quite soon. Maybe a few weeks or less. Just guessing, the price will probably go up after version 1.5. However no one can say whether the next version will be 1.5 (not even pixolator, we’ve all seen how indecisive he is)
It’s also possible that the next version might be less than 1.5 but the price still could go up…
It’s nail biting stuff. Ask yourself this…How lucky do you feel?
I see your point thelonious, the new version may have sufficient changes to warrant being version 2.0 and nobody gets a free upgrade, probably just a discount.
I guess that’s all in the hands of the people at Pixologic.
As long as the next demo (assuming there will be one) has the same setup restriction wise as the current one i’ll be happy and just keep on saving.
A personal Grail quest if you like!
The new version will definately be a free ugrade. It’s only a question of whether it will be the last or if there will be one more. However with two huge features being introduced (organic modeling mesh tool and incident lighting it would be very optimistic to see this upgrade coming in under 1.5 unless there is some tweaking to be done. But they don’t tweak at the Z factory they tend to get it right the first time.
The smart money is on 1.5, so no more free upgrades and probably a price increase. But hey what do I know?
PS, it’s really not something you should be worrying about though. After all, there’s no guarantee that you’ll wake up tomorrow. After lub no-one promises dub.
Yikes!
When I said I was worried, I didn’t mean on that sort of scale.
I think I’d rather live than upgrade!

I’m afraid that I can’t really say much on this subject, other than to recommend that you watch for upcoming announcements on this subject. More information will be released soon.
However, I can safely say that you don’t have to worry about things skipping past version 1.5 and robbing people of that final free upgrade. Pixologic is very customer-oriented, and not about to break any promises.

what do you mean by(Final)
this could mean a few things does it mean you will have to pay for each upgrade after wards OR if he held out to the 1.5 the changes would be anyone that payed for the 1.5 version when it was released will not have to pay for the next up grade but anyone BEFORE 1.5 Version will be a Fee.
most of my programs give a life time free up grade thats what i like.
if i had to pay a little extra for a life time upgrade from the beging you bet i would pay it if it was in reason.
whats his best bet should he wait or should he buy Now or it wouldn’t matter?
even if the orginal price didn’t change
Mik, I feel your pain. And Its probably even worse for me, after all, look at my budget.
David
I’m sorry for the ambiguity, EZ. What I meant by “final” was in reference to the Pixologic website where it says that buying at the introductory price, “All the interim updates, up to and including version 1.5, will be yours free of charge as a registered owner of ZBrush.”
That doesn’t necessarily mean that there will not be free upgrades after 1.5. Only that there might not be.
All that I can really recommend to someone who’s “fence sitting” before 1.5 comes out is to not wait. The introductory price is a wonderful deal, and it won’t be here forever.
EZ - where do you buy your software? I dearly wish most of mine had free life-time upgrades, but I think only one has. Most of the rest have at best a similar promise to ZBrush - more often just one free upgrade within a set period of time. For the remainder, you pay for all upgrades from day one (thanks big Bill).
I’m sure I remember Pix saying somewhere on this Forum that the post-1.5 upgrades would be heavily discounted for existing registered users of the full version, so I must admit I’m not too worried about this. If it helps to maintain the high quality and reliability of the software and promote further fantastic expansions such as are promised in the next release, I am happy to pay a reasonable upgrade fee further down the line.
