Hugh Laurie (House M.D.)

Hey all,

I started working on a sculpt of Hugh Laurie (House M.D.) last night and thought I should post it up on the threads to get some feedback. The Base Mesh was created in Maya. I’ve barely touched the ears in the sculpt yet.

I started doing some skin shader tests for him using Mental Ray in 3ds Max. I’m still trying to figure out how to do the facial hair and hair.

Looks pretty damn close!

yeah i agree the face almost look the same.keep em coming !

Great likeness ! Still need some very subtle tweaks on the eyes, especially the right one (at the left of the image). Seems like you dragged down the exterior of the eye a bit too much.
The end of the nose also needs very subtle tweaks, but you are almost there.
Maybe the space between the mouth and the nose is too wide, but it could be because of the lack of hair.

Waiting the haired version.

Thanks for the crits everyone. They are very helpful. It’s always nice to have others give a look at it. I agree with the eyes and nose. I think I still need to tweak the sides of the nostrils too. I didn’t notice how odd it looked until I started trying to create the shader for him.

looking very good so far. He’s my favorite actor. I’ll definatly be watching this thread.

Here’s a brief update on the shader work.

Looking very cool! :+1:

really nice : it’s looking quite the same as gregory !

Looks great! I really like the look of the skin shader. Mind sharing a bit of the shader creation process with everybody?

The main crit I have is that the crease on the bridge of the nose seems a bit too deep and sharp. Even with his scowling face he doesn’t have quite such a deep wrinkle. If he was extremely angry or making a weird face I think it would show up like that though.

Just found these on a quick google search.

normal face
vs

deep wrinkle

it seems like for the pose you have the wrinkle would look closer to the first image then the second one. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing this one finished!
