How to turn an image/photo into alpha in ZB?

Hi all,

Is it possible to turn an image or photo into alpha in ZB? (I know if I draw something white in a black canvas and use MRGRABER it will be ok, but this is not about drawing. )

Thanks much

If you import the image as a texture, you can then simply hit Texture>Make alpha

This is useful if you have a texture applied to an object and want to make an alpha for masking and subsequent deformation of the object based on the texture, e.g. the bark of a tree.

Hi Enter
You have also the possibily
when you are in the Menu Selection mask of an edited object the possibility
like the button Alp (import alpha) 3 import different from the texture grabbed! Int HUE Sat !
So you can import mask from any color image with great facility
Hope this help!

I tried both of your tips however it does not work with a white background- black object image.

For instant, I draw a cell phone in painter using white color for the backgound and black pencil for the cellphone. Now I load it in ZB texture , select size 1024 * 1024 press Make make Alpha then Make 3d or go to SELECTION/ try INT, HUE, SAT/ Create Alpha
them MAKE 3d
===> BOTH methods result is the newly created 3d tool still remains the white background.
How to get rid it?
Thanks

Not sure I quite understand what you are doing but in ZBrush black is always the low or zero color and white represents the highest color value. Therefor invert your texture then make 3d. In the example you cited the white background would create the highest point in your 3d object while the black lines would be the lowest point…exactly oposite I think of what you are after so you need to invert it.

Hi Enter
When you make an Alpha (3D) from texture, put in the Texture/Sub Menu “Texture Transparent” Enable !!!

This Can also interest you
This too (bottom page)for again problem of background.

For the image on white White Background
as Mentat said Inversion ais possible for many ways (from image or from Alpha mask)
Inverse it before your image
(you can make that in Render/SubMenu Adjusment - Curve graphic RGB )
Grabb it
Make your Alpha 3D as usual
Hope this help!
