how to show a wire frame for a presentation?

I want to be able to show a simple wire frame of a model for presentation. Is there some way to do this in zbrush4 without showing a colorful PolyF. Or will I have to export it out as an obj. If so I would suppose I would have to make it a smaller file, so… that would be my next question. Sorry I dabble with zbrush just enough to be dangerous but not enough to know all of this. Thanks in advance.

If you didn’t start from a low poly model, you’ll have to make one. The Edit Topology tools will allow you to create a wireframe on top of your sculpt, turn it into an adaptive skin and project your detail onto it.

You can start at the wiki: http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/Topology , and there are many videos of people’s retopos available if you search YouTube.

Otherwise you’ll have to make a mesh in some other program, import it and project your sculpt onto that.

Here’s one option:

:small_orange_diamond: Set your model color to black
:small_orange_diamond: Set Preferences>Draw>Pf Color to white. This changes the polyframe lines to white.
:small_orange_diamond: Set Preferences>Draw>PFrame to 100. This makes the lines as strong as possible.
:small_orange_diamond: Set Preferences>Draw>PFill to 0. This removes all polyframe group coloring.

You can also turn off the Floor plane. (Draw>Floor)

You can remove the gradient background from the document. (Document>Range to 0 and Back to black.)

Changing the material will also have an effect. For example, go with Basic Material, setting the Ambient to 0 and Specular to 0.

Hope that helps!

You can get a transparent wireframe if you follow aurick’s steps above then:

  1. Create a new absolute black texture by setting color to black and then pressing the New button in the Texture palette.
  2. Click the Tool>Texture Map>Texture Map thumbnail and choose the black texture.
  3. Turn on the Tool>TextureMap>Transparent button.

Your model must have UVs assigned and the Preferences>Draw>PFrame slider must be set to 100 for this to work. You can set Preferences>Draw>Pf Color to any color other than black.

Thank you so much. This worked perfectly. Or at least close to perfect, I can revise what I need to in photoshop. You guys are the best.

A little more help please. I got this. but would really like to have a wire frame without shading on the fish. Any suggestions on how to do that.

Try the Flat Color material.

The flat color now makes it look like it has a red hue to it. Not sure why that is.

Did you set Preferences > Draw > PFill to 0 to remove Polygroup coloring? Also make sure you have the color you want selected in the material color selection box.

I guess there was a bug. When I clicked off of white and back onto white it then changed the color. Still not sure if this is what we are after. but I thank you for your help.

Your welcome! Did you do the above then lower your subdivision level to 1 to get the “simple” wireframe that you wanted? (that you indicated in post#1)

Thought I would add what someone else suggested as well. Ok, here’s the easiest way to do this:

  1. set the color picker to black
  2. Go to the Document menu
and you’ll find a color block with the word “back” under it. Click on this and it will change the background to pure black. (Yes, I know you want white, but we have a few things to do first.)
  3. Change the color picker color back to white.
  4. Have the sub tool active and assign the "flat color material to it (this gets rid of shading), now, if it isn’t white, fill the object with the white color (be sure RGB is on)
  5. Turn on the polyframe display and you’ll get the wireframe.
  6. Render out what you want and save as some form of file Photoshop will open.
  7. Import into Photoshop and go to adjustments - invert, this turns the colors around and now the black background is white, etc

This is the only way I know of to get the result you want, there may be a way to change the wireframe color, but I can’t recall (I know you can change the grid color, but that is seperate from the wireframe).

( i guess because I had the grid color changed already it worked perfectly!) Thank you go everyone.
