how to delete an Zsphere?

hello,

back after a week of going through some Modo tuts and Gomon DvDs.
Today I wanted to proceed with a Zsphere model I was was making last week. it’s actualy the first thing I ever made in Zbrush.

Now the moment I load up Zbrush I run into some problems. First of all it’s not always possible to go into edit mode when I place a saved tool on the canvas. Making it impossible to move rotate the model etc. I solved this by restarting the program a few times. Still it’s odd becuase it’s not happening all the time.

Another problem I have is I cannot delete a Zsphere, I remember that you need to press alt and click the Zshere, but apperantly this doesn’t seem to work. Getting back into draw/edit mode doesn’t help either and it actualy only freezes my sphere model into 2.5 space.
So I am a little confused right now becuase I remember you could switch between edit and the transform mode without the model dropping on the canvas.

So basicly I am able to add spheres to the model, but when I move rotate etc some of the spheres. I am unable to return to draw mode and add new spheres again.

I am probably missing something obvious again but I don’t know what.

thanks

To delete a zsphere make sure you are in Edit mode and have the Draw Pointer selected. Then Alt+click on the zsphere.

You will only lose the ability to enter Edit mode if you switch tools (i.e. select something other than the zsphere tool). Although if you are switching between Edit and Transform modes and click on the canvas when in Transform mode and with the Draw Pointer selected (i.e. no Gyro showing) you will create a new instance of your model (possibly too small to see), dropping the original.

Ok thanks Marcus, but erhm right now I can switch between transform and edit mode without dropping the model. Not sure what I am doing diffirent tho’

Transform and Edit modes are different names for the same thing.

As long as you can rotate your model on the canvas, you’re in Edit mode. It simply means that the Transform>Edit switch is turned on.

Edit mode has sub-modes:

Edit>Draw
Edit>Move
Edit>Scale
Edit>Rotate

You can tell which of these modes you’re in by the fact that the Edit switch is active AND one of the other switches as well. To add or delete ZSpheres, you must be in Edit>Draw mode, which means that both the Edit and Draw switches will be active in the Transform palette. You then do as marcus_civis said, which is to Alt+Click on the ZSphere that you wish to remove.

Please see the Quick Reference Guide for an illustrated chart showing what you can do with ZSpheres in each mode.

So what do you call it when the Gyro is active?

Hmm yeh I sort of figured it out now thanks for the tips. It can be pretty confusing sometimes.
I’d like to know what the gyro mode means too, I only see it the first time I drop a tool

Good point.

I typically don’t say “transform mode” because of possible confusion like this. I always say something like “with the gyro active” or maybe “showing the Move gyro” depending on context.

Technically, using the gyro on an object is transforming it without actually being in edit mode, and any actions using the Transform palette (including using the gyro) are Transform mode. Edit mode is therefore a subset of Transform mode. But the differentiation can get pretty confusing for new users and I try to avoid it.

Thanks. Good answer, as always.
