How do you save custom brush settings?

I know this is a noob question but this is an aspect of zbrush I have never messed with and upon trying to customized a matcaps material I ended up overwriting the original:(. So before I mess with the brush settings figured I’d ask so as not to repeat that same mistake as I did with the matcap. So how would I take an existing brush, customize its settings, save w/o overwriting the original and have it load in the brush library?

Go to Preferences>Init ZBrush and that should restore ZB back to its’ original settings from what I understand. I’m a new guy so I may be wrong. As far as saving Brushes, check this Vid out from Jason Welsh over at CannedMushrooms.

I saw a Vid on making and saving MatCaps In PS for ZB and I know I bookmarked it but I’m having trouble finding it for you. So I did a search and CGTuts popped up, check the MatCap Skull Tut.

You can make a custom brush like this:

  1. Select the brush you want to modify and press Brush>Clone.
  2. Make the adjustments you want.
  3. (Optional) Press Brush>SelectIcon and choose an image file if you want to give your brush a custom icon.
  4. Press Brush>Save As. If you save to the ZStartup/Brush Presets folder your brush will be available each time you start ZBrush, but don’t put too many brushes in there otherwise they may impact on performance (as they all have to be loaded). If you save to the ZBrush 4.0/ZBrushes folder then your brush will appear in the default Brush folder in Lightbox.

HTH,

Thank you guys:+1:
