How do I get a sphere to look like this?

I want to get a base sphere to have topology that looks like this. I have no idea ho to get it to do this. I can lower the mesh count in initialize, but the math still gathers at the axis of the sphere. Please help this very green user.

Thanks,

Chris

Well that’s just a PolySphere - you can find one in Lightbox > Tools

You won’t have the ‘initialise’ option though so to reduce the polycount go to the Geometry palette.

But I suspect that you will not get it to look as low-poly as your screenshot. For that you’ll need to create one in another 3D package. So anyway, I’m feeling helpful today, so I’ve uploaded an .OBJ and .ZTL :

The correct name for these objects are Hexahedrons or Quadballs

OBJ

ZTL (4R6)

You will see that the toplogy matches the one in your screenshot exactly

Hope this helps

You can actually use the geometry’s “reconstruct subdivisions” to the standard polysphere, to achieve this almost instantly. Refer to the http://www.pixologic.com/zclassroom/homeroom/lesson/military-assets-with-joseph-drust/#molle-part-1

4:00 into the video he’ll show show you exactly what i’m talking about

Yes you are correct, but its certainly not that instant
to get the same level of subdivision as the posted screenshot, using the method you suggested requires that you :

  1. Load a PolySphere
  2. Put ZBrush in Edit Mode
  3. Move the SDiv slider left from 3 to 1
  4. Click ‘Del Higher’
  5. Then do a ‘Reconstruct Subdiv’
  6. Then another ‘Del Higher’
  7. Then another ‘Reconstruct Subdiv’

That’s seven steps with mine it’s just two
load the .ZTL, click on Edit

Productivity is everything and time is money

THIS
THIS is why I love Zbrush
you people are so great!! Community is a wonderful thing.

Cool, that imported great. Thanks.

I tried the other way just to learn, but my polysphere in lightbox is not a base quad sphere
so I am not sure where in the video they are getting a base quad in lightbox?

Just opened the PolySphere from the Lightbox ‘Tools’ and then performed those steps mentioned above and it does work.

It looks exactly like the object in the image you posted, I turned the polyframe on and took a screenshot

Just save this if you want. Then you can reload it when you want.

Yup, that worked. Not sure what I did last time.

You guys all ROCK!!
