How could I flatten this? (and another noob question)

Hi there,

I’m just getting into modeling in Zbrush and I have a few issues getting my head around the workflow. I wanted to just flatten the bottom of this model.

In another 3d package I’d probably look from a side view and select the bottom vertices. Then I’d probably scale them in the z direction to flatten them out, how would you approach this in Zbrush??

Also just wondering, is there a way to constrain your edits to a plane? I’ve found a few situations where I only want to move things on the X/Z plane.

Thanks,
Pete

Yes there are some options, I added the buttons to my UI.

What buttons did you add?

The transpose tool with a combination of masking can both flatten and restrict edits to a plane.

To flatten, you just select the points you want flattened by masking and inverting. Then shift click the object to your canvas. Drag out your transpose line from any point on the plane you want to flatten to, while holding shift. Select the furthest inner circle of the transpose line, and while holding shift, drag that dot in the direction you want to flatten. You’ll have to drag it multiple times to get it truly flat. Sound’s like a lot, but it’s really quick once you get the hang of it.

And you can practically do the same thing to move points and planes along an axis. Using the middle transpose dot to drag.

Go to “Transform > Modifiers” and turn off “Xyz”, then select X or Y or Z, or any combination of those 3.

Ace! Thanks guys!

I think using the clip curve brush will do it too.
