Hiding part of the mesh in Retopology

Hello all!

I’m currently retopologizing the legs of my character with the zsphere and all, but when I’m working one of the leg is always getting in the way/bocking my view.
I tried to hide everything but the leg I’m working on (since it’s in symmetry and all) but it only hides the topology I’m doing and not the mesh itself.

(This is my first time doing topology with a Zsphere so I don’t really know how to skip from the mesh to my new topology and back or something, and haven’t really tried to try stuff in fear of somehow scrapping what I’m doing…)

So: is there a way to hide the mesh itself?

Deepest thanks!

It is not currently possible to hide part of the source mesh when you’re doing retopology.

By the way, your post took a while to appear because as a new user it must first be checked by a moderator to make sure it’s not spam. After you’ve participated for a short time at ZBC your account will automatically update to start showing your posts immediately.

Aww chucks. Oh well, I’ll do my best without hiding then!

Thanks a lot for the answer and my apologies for the double-posting then. I went over to the FAQ and everything but I couldn’t spot any information about new users needing proofreading or not so I tought it might have been one of my numerous connexion problems causing my account validation not to really have worked.
I stand corrected! Sorry for the trouble!

I’m able to hide portions of my reference mesh when retopologizing using the standard CTRL+SHIFT box or lasso selection. I’m able to do so using my polygroups on the reference mesh.

i too have been able to hide nearly my whole mesh but leave only 1 or 2 polys and the topology wireframe in that area.
i think it involved the normal ctrlshift hiding but then hitting undo(ctrlz) and maybe doing it again. it definitely was abnormal workflow but eventually it became second hand which is why i can’t remember it now. just play with it.

(Haha I was making thispost but my class started so I couldn’t finish in time and now twopeople posted what I was going to say)

I’ve loaded my mesh to start working again today and magically, the part of the source mesh I had tried to hide yesterday was hidden when I loaded my tool.
I’ve been able to hide and unhide parts of the source mesh without any problem.

For some reason it didn’t work the first time but now it does. Also, I’ve been having a display problem where all the new retopology work I was doing was visible in preview (pressing a) but not when I worked (tough it was there). Hiding and showing the area again made everything reappear properly tough, must have been a little bug.

But now it creates a new issue. All the new topology I am doing does not appear when I work (tough it does when I hit preview (a)).
Then whenever I hide the mesh itself, the vertices and edges I’ve done will reappear. And dissapear again if I try to show the mesh again…
Very annoying.

EDIT: Seems like a major refresh problem or something: when moving my old points, it does not show either. Seems like it’s a frozen display of my topology when I first tried to hide a part of the mesh that does not refreshes to show any change I do. I tried saving and reloading the tool but it’s still stuck.

How do you guys that managed to hide your mesh do without this happening to you?

Ok, sorry for double-post but I seem to have found the fix so I’m posting it in case someone with the same problem ever refers to this thread:
simply disable “Edit topology” then re-enable it: the topology should now properly refresh and display your changes.
