Hex patterns

I was wondering how the large hexagonal pattern was put on the sphere pictured in the accompanying link. I get stretching on the sides when projecting or even using dragRec. This pattern on the sphere appears to be perfect and my only guess is that these hexes were placed individually via stamping or was brought in from another program with these hexes built into the mesh already.

So my main objective is learning how to wrap patterns around a mesh based on normals (UV’s or not) like this. Is this possible?

Thanks much and happy holidays,

It’s done using Noisemaker but you need to use UVs to get a good wrap. The alternative, the 3D option, will stretch the pattern at the sides. How good a wrap you get will depend on your UVs, and there will always be a seam somewhere.

You can test this by loading the Default Sphere project, and loading the Noise11.ZNM by clicking the Tool>Surface>Lightbox>Noisemakers button. Click Edit and try the 3D and UV options.

Sweetness! I’ll try this out immediately. Thanks for the feedback Marcus.
