Help with 'buzz cut' hair do.

I was wondering if anyone out there could give me any insight into how to tackle sculpting this guys hair. It seems to be in three bits to me.

  1. this long stuff. I’m ok with this as I have done all his hair like this at the moment.

  2. Is kind of shorter, but can still see the hair

  3. is like hair ends

I have tried lots of ways and am obvioulsy missing someone. It’s for a 3D print so want to get it as detailed as possible.

Any ideas?

Anyone?

Hmmm. Will need to try some stuff out myself.

It probably would have been a good idea to post, along with your image of Johnny Rico, a screen cap of your model to date in ZBrush. That way, because you said you were alright with #1, other people can get an idea of:

  1. Your level of expertise.
  2. How much detail you were really after.
  3. How best to match up to what you already had done.

Just sayin’.

It was good though, that you Posted the pic of Rico and pointed out the details on it. More people in this forum should do that. Like the old saying goes, “A picture is worth a thousand words.”

Sorry, missed your post zber2.

This is what I’ve come up with after much messing.

Hmm, didn’t seem to load the image.

Try again.

For the short stubbly hair, try the attached alpha using the Standard brush with the Spray stroke, and zadd intensity about 25. Draw size can have an affect also, so just play around with that to find the best size.

if you really wanna go all the way, you could do a hair and fur in max or maya or… an convert that to mesh for zbrush. look around on internet, i know there are some tuts out on that like this one:

Zber2: I’ll take a look. My image was of what I had managed to figure out. Do you think it needs to be better?

Jitter: two problems with that. I don’t have either of those prigs and the model is for exporting to be 3d printed.

Zber, the alpha definitely makes the buzz bit a lot better thanks. Got an idea about the other bits too. Update tonight.

Something else you might want to try to get a strand type effect is using the Dam_Standard brush on Zadd with Alpha 50 and Dots stroke.

Well after much wailing and gnashing of teeth I’ve did my best and this is where I will leave it. It’s by no means perfect, but I think it will print out fine. On to the base and that’ll be him finished.
