Heads - texture and sculpt... and other showreel stuff

This is my first post on ZbrushCentral. The head was and old sculpt I did during a break at work 6 months ago. I had it laying around and needed some new stuff for my showreel. So I decided to texture it up and see what i got. Everythng was done in Zbrush with some texture tweaks courtesy of photoshop. Basemesh was created in maya with proper uv’s intended for games. Let me know what u guys think.

nice head model, great texture.
Why don’t you post some more angles?

Good luck with your showreel!
Andrea

Hey Andrea, thanks. And as requested some more angles. Oh and I forgot to mention this was all rendered in Zbrush 3.1 as well…

very very nice gb… well done!
can I ask you two questions?

what ZB material did you use for the skin?
how did you get that skin effect, some brightness on some places of the face?

cheers!

thanks mate…

Material: while browsing the forums i found one that alot of people had posted their materials they had made to share. I tested a few out which were better than my own in certain ways… The one I used was called CB_Skin, posted by Atwooki… Which gives a very nice effect. You can find it on this page here… Along with other great matcap stuff.

Skin Effect: Basically its real skin textures that I used and not hand painted ones. They are all photographed with low specular for making maps. I needed to get this done quick so it was textured up in a day using a dozen or so pictures from different angles. Now this looks okayish even on a fast shader… But the material is what gives off that nice waxy look along with the overall feel. Then I also have 3 lights on… The main sun in usual position then a high strong light, then a low angle blue light of low intensity.

Hope that helps

So this is the other head im working on for my showreel. The textures still need to be fixed in a couple areas but thought id share these. Oh and im gonna try model the hair and see if I can get it to look reasonable.

As my other showreel stuff is on this page… Thought I might show my renderman render of my zbrush sculpt of a spartan. Hope you like it.

Looks good, how did you get the reflections to look like that on the eyes. Did you use a spherical image or specifically an interior spherical hdr. I’ve been trying to create the similiar effect. Also I would like to point out in your second model, that you should sculpt the hair in rather than leaving it flat. It will pop out more giving it more volume.

Very realistic heads. How bout some wireframes and more angles. Thanks for posting your stuff.

thanks for the response guys…

Im currently rendering out stuff for my showreel so when I can ill try put up wireframes and more angles of the spartan guy. The heads are off the same basemesh so they are gonna be the same wireframe. But ill post it all when I can.

Shadowscheme: Normally id do it like that in maya with hdr reflections and some other tricks… But this I actually used eyes off a technique I saw in ballistic pub book Face, off the additional downloadable content… basically its a combination of mapped photo and below that ramps in an inner/outter eye shader system… But for this it is literally a mapped render/photo texture baked in zbrush onto each eye. All the textures were imported and baked into the polypaint for each subtool so I could have multiple textures on my subtools.

As for the hair yeah im gonna model it… Just with my computer taking up all its time rendering I cant get in there and model it. So I hope I can get in there tommorrow sometime. Also I wanted to texture it up first so I knew where to model the hair, so I didnt have to mess with Uv’s or tweaking in photoshop.

One of the first renders of Spartan… Still have to re-render with latest settings to fix the base he’s standing on.

Cool! It looks like you and I are both replicating the same scene from 300.
