hdri and/or ( image based) lighting

I am fortunate enough to have several programs among them Poser 5, Vue 5, Maya 6.
Lately I have been experimenting and reading about two types
of lighting. HDRI and Image based lighting which are utilized in the mentioned
programs. I believe Carrara 3 also has provisions for it’s use

From what I gather the net result is a sort of global illumination.
DAZ , for instance, sells just lighting setups to enhance the Poser models.
Question is.
Has anyone experimented or researched anyway of duplicating this type of lighting in Zbrush?

hi bicc

in the lighting menu you will find two spheres. under one it says gdi and the other gsi. You can hit control while your mouse is over them for more info. but you can click on them to add an image to your lighting. I will try to post an example later.

you can also add an image to fog too for some interesting effects.

if you do a search on hdri, you will find a very interesting thread on how to sort of fake hdri in zbrush.

Many thanks aminuts.
Too quick to ask the question before
I researched it more thorughly.
Not lazy, just enthusiastic.
This is some of the best lighting results I have
seen!!!
Vue 5 renders are especially great.

haha not too quick…it took me a year of playing with z before i stumbled onto the gdi, gsi feature…after playing a bit then I looked around for some threads…hardly any on that feature.

I can’t remember ever seeing anyone mention they used it for something either.

Hi Ami,

One pro/con discussion I remember on HDRI simulation within ZBrush - HERE

Sven

attached are a few illuminated test spheres I played with after reading the above linked discussion. (Can’t remember if I downloaded them or made them myself…)

hi Sven,

Thanks! that’s the one! I tried to do a quickie search when I replied to bicc but think I musta skipped over it somehow cuz I couldn’t find it.

Now to check out your little test:D

Thanks guys, as I mentioned, I was a tad too enthusiastic.
There is enough research material around that should answer
any question if you bother to look.
Many don’t bother out of laziness.
I assure you that was not the case here.
Just pumped up!!!
