Normally when you alt click a surface with the gizmo tool the gizmo will align itself to the clicked normal but it suddenly stopped doing that. Now if I have perspective on and alt click at an angle the gizmo tool won’t align itself to the clicked normal, it will be slightly off angle for some reason. Dunno if I’m just being dumb or if I’ve accidentally clicked something. Video of problem:https://youtu.be/lFGv0BHxVFU
thanks
Hello @Turtle
With the Gizmo unlocked, click on the “Reset Mesh Orientation” icon next to the lock icon. It is possible to inadvertently adjust the orientation of the Gizmo while clicking or dragging it out. This will reset it.
Thanks for the response however I don’t believe I am inadvertently changing the orientation of the gizmo while clicking or dragging out. I don’t believe this is the problem because the problem only happens when perspective is turned on. I’ve made another video demonstrating this further: https://youtu.be/Mj3taoCfbSQ
-when I alt click with perspective off the gizmo properly aligns itself to the normal 100% of the time
-but when I alt click with perspective on the gizmo does not properly align itself to the normal
the behavior of the gizmo also seems to have some connection to the angle at which the subtool is facing the camera because the degree to which the gizmo is off can vary seemingly depending on the angle at which the subtool is facing the camera.
While I know I could click “Reset Mesh Orientation” every time that is quite tedious and I’ve never had to do that before so I don’t know why the gizmo has suddenly started misbehaving. I don’t know if it is a bug or if I may have accidentally clicked something which is changing the behavior of the gizmo but up until now it has always behaved as expected.
Any further advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
This is usual behavior as far as I can see from a quick look, and unchanged from previous program versions. The Gizmo orientation is remembered in certain situations, and will persist unless you simply reset the orientation as I mentioned above. Perspective mode will alter the way the manipulator is drawn out on the surface, and will persist if you then deactivate perspective mode.
