Geometric Modeling

I thinking of purchasing ZBrush but I’m wondering if there are functions in the software for geometric building? We have uses 3d Studio Max for this type of work in the past but I’d like to know if this would be a function that ZBrush could handle. I really like using ZBrush for sculpting but for certain types of models and structures I like Max. Max is about twice as much as ZBrush so I want to know can we build geometric shapes in ZBrush to specific dimensions. How is scale and measurements handled in ZBrush?

Thank you

Actually, Max is about 4 times as much, but you can’t really compare pricing because you can’t buy Max anymore, you can only get it through subscription or renting month to month.

As for creating geometric shapes, what exactly are you referring to? Zbrush does have Zmodeler tools which allow you to create hard surface models, but if you need these geometric models to be dimensionally accurate, you should probably stick with Max or any other poly modeling program to create the models and then import them into Zbrush for detailing. If you can’t afford Max, you may want to take a look at Blender. It’s free.

Is ZModeler an add-on to ZBrush? What does it cost? Thanks for the explanation on ZBrush not being able to make dimensionally accurate models.

Did you take a look at the link I provided in my previous post? ZModeler is not an add on. It is included with the program.

Yes, I followed the link. I just didn’t see anything on a price and it mentions its an add-on. Didn’t know if it was included. I also see in the tutorials there is a whole section on poly modeling. I’ll look into that further to see if there is any mention of dimensional modeling capabilities.

Thanks -

I don’t see anything on the page that mentions it being an add-on, but anyway, yes it is included. As far as I know there are no dimensional modeling capabilities though.
