Freeze while generating normal or displacment maps

Hello,

I’m planning to purchase ZBrush but I encounter the following problem with the trial version :

  • I sculpt an object created by zspheres (up to sub division 6 ~300k polys).
  • I go back to lvl 2
  • I export as an obj
  • I store the morph target (I tried withought storing the morphtarget, it’s the same)
  • I go down to the displacment map (same for normal map) and generate straight away the map (tangent for normals… and 1024 size)
  • Then, the export process freezes and the countdown doesn’t move anumore until I kill the process.
    I managed to generate some displacment maps, but the crashes are occuring more and more often…
    zBrush eats about 1Go of memory at this state.

My config is :

  • Windows Vista 32bits
  • 4Go memory
  • CeleronT processor 1.66Ghz

It’s not the best machine to make 3D, but it’s really enought for my use with my other softwares.

if you’re using Vista, you’re using 3.1 right?

you create your normal maps inside Zmapper
and Displacement inside of MD3.

Two plugins that should have installed.

That could be the reason you keep crashing.

What are Zmapper and MD3 ?
I didn’t use those tools, should I have?

And yes, my trial version is the 3.1.

I tried to use Zmapper but it seems difficult.
I’ll look to the video tutorials.

Where is MD3?

Multi Displacement 3 is a side of Displacement Exporter. It’s found in the Zplugin palette, just as ZMapper is.

Ok, I found those 2 plugins.
The zmapper was on the top left of the screen, and it worked out.
But When creating the displace map with md3, it’s not a ffreeze I encounter, it’s a crash.
Yesyerday, for an unknown reason, I managed to generate a simple 1024 displace map. I’ll make few tests again today but I guess I have a clue.
It’s because of polygroups. I have to generate a better uv I think…

I’ll tell you if it’s working.
