fast workflow for posing human?

Hi! I’m new to zbrush, but I think it is the best thing I came through in the last years, considering CG. Usually I work with Maya, but I never felt the modeling process to be so intuitive as with zbrush.

I need to find a fast workflow to do humans in different poses. I’ve tried to use poser to create a base for modeling, since it is easy to modify human proportions and position with it. I would use it only as a base for the modeling process.
The problem is that, not only the program keeps crashing when I try to use some commands (like topology based mask), but the topology of poser models is not so clean as the default zbrush human model. Some points of the geometry are difficult to work with when one wants to change the skin into clothing features, for example.
What would you recommend. I just need a fast way of creating the base for my sculptures, even if the human model in this base is very simple.

Thanks

Have you worked with TransPose?

Yes, I’ve tried it but, even if I think that zbrush is the best thing that happened to CG lately, posing in it seems a very slow process. Maybe I’m missing something, but having to create a mask, try it, retouch, each time you need to move a body part is MUCH slower than posing a skeleton.

I’ll try to export zbrush super average man model to maya and rig it so that I can pose it there and use as a base for sculpture. It’s just perfect, since it’s topology is clean and it’s first level very simple… that’s all I need… but I need to be able to pose it quickly.

I hope that importing and re-exporting from Maya will mantain it’s integrity.

Have you tried making the mask by Ctrl+click and draging on the articulation? It’s very fast to work that way

In fact I have. It crashes with the poser model I imported.

Still I’ve played with it on super average man model, but having to create a mask, smooth it, test, smooth again… every time I must move a body part is painful.

I need a fast workflow here, to concentrate mainly on the sculpting process. Assigning a skeleton to super average man in maya still seems to me the best option to create my bases, but if someone has a better one…
