This is a model I sculpted and textured in Zbrush that I used as my entry for the Animation Magazine Face 2 Face contest. It took me about 1.5 weeks form start to finish. I had been working on my Adama sculpt when the call for entries was made, and I didn’t want to try to rush to finish Adama, so I decided to make a new model. I love watching MMA, so I decided to make a guy that looks like he’s been through a few fights. I used techniques I had developed working on Adama and figured I could crank it out. I wanted to give him a mohawk, but found too little to really make it look good.
So here it is. Enjoy.
Great job Tony! The sculpt, the texture, the hair and lashes, all top notch work…congrats on the face 2 face win, it’s well deserved!
Great work 5 Stars!
Possible to see a Wireframe shot?
Here ya go
Can you share some of your skin sculpting techniques? It looks amazing.
Yeah I would like to see that as well, he looks phenomenal!
Great job ,great texture bravo
Outstanding work, skin surface and pores looks ultra realistic, could you share your techniques for making those fine details, maybe few alphas for download?
Wow…that skin is looking great …
great work, like the skin details.
Looks like another awesome sculpt from Tony.
Another great peice. The one thing that lets it down some is the hair I think - it’s too uniform against the black background and looks really strange. It looks allot better on the face, though.
I really like your texturing and lighting, I’m going to be cheeky and ask if it’s possible to see the texture with a flat shader, as I’m struggling to do such nice texture work. Cool stuff.
That’s extremely realistic, I had to do a sort of double-take to convince myself it was a sculpture, amazing work!
I uploaded my skin brushes here

I posted a timelapse sculpting movie here

*I just uploaded it so it may take a while for it to be available
Basically, what most artists miss when sculpting skin is the mid detail forms - they get the large masses, and they will get the pores, but miss the in between. There is a mid frequency noise in skin that helps sell it. To get this I use my skin noise brush at every subdivision of the model. As I go up in subdivisions I ease up on the pressure. Then I use my skin pore brush at varying sizes and pressure to add the pores. My skin wrinkle brush can be used to create wrinkles as well as build up form especially in the lip area. I created moles with the skin wrinkle brush as well.
I hope this helps.

I agree with you about the hair. I figured some things out about making hair between finishing this piece and doing a second pass on Adama’s hair. Thanks for the crit.
Here’s a character sheet flat shaded…
As said earlier his hair could use some tweaking but other then that model and shading is very realistic … Polypaint looks sweeeeettt!!! waiting for your next update
Thanks for the info Tony, those brushes rock.
Hey great work man. I was checking out your brushes.
Could you explain a little more in depth how you use your wrinkle brush as well as your nose i brush. I dont quite understand how you use them effectively.
Atleast im having trouble using them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot man and keep up the good work!
To use the wrinkle brush effectively you may have to up the z intensity depending on whether you are using a tablet or a cintiq. Use very little pressure to create fine wrinkles - I also change the size of the brush constantly. This brush is a little difficult to get used to, but once you do the results are great. Feel free to mess with the Falloff curve - it may work better for you.
To use the noise brush make the brush large and use greater pressure at lower subdivisions and as you move up to higher subds use very light pressure. At these higher subdivisions you may need to smooth your strokes. Also, don’t place pores before using this brush at the highest subd - it will make your model get crunchy.
I hope that helps.
