I’m using ZBrush 4R6 and cannot find a way to export to an FBX file. I hope I’m simply missing the option.
If it’s not able to happen through stock options, can it be done through ZScript or addons?

Just use OBJ, which is pretty standard format in 3D. FBX export wouldn’t contain any additional information that an OBJ wouldn’t, at least as far as Zbrush is concerned. Any program that can import FBX can also do OBJ.
Some software, like game engines sometimes require .fbx format to work properly - i’ve solved the lack of .fbx export by just converting .obj’s in Autodesk FBX Converter - fast, easy and free app. Just drop in .obj files, click Convert and it’s done. So that’s what i can recommend from my experience
