Disable default hotkeys?

Is there any way to disable Zbrush’s default hotkeys?

I know you can map custom hotkeys (using CRTL-ALT-Click) to certain actions, but the default hotkeys cannot be overridden or deleted. An example of this is the use of the X key to toggle symmetry.

There are some very frustrating hotkey assignments I find myself activating accidentally, such as X to toggle symmetry, CRTL-Click to blur a mask, Ctrl-drag to dynamesh. I’m desperate to turn these off.

Hope one of you has the answer to these woes!

If you assign the X key to some other function then I think it will be disabled for Symmetry. Just choose something that doesn’t interrupt your workflow.

For blurring the mask, you can turn off the relevant button in the Preferences>Edit sub-palette. Store the configuration by pressing Shift+Ctrl+i after making this change.

For DynaMesh, the Ctrl+drag behaviour will only work if the DynaMesh button is active, so simply turn that off. You could assign a hotkey to the button to toggle it as you need it.

HTH,

Thanks Marcus,

  • Disabling the blur mask shortcut worked perfectly. :)
  • For symmetry you can assign an additional shortcut, but you can’t delete or replace the default one.
  • For disabling the dynamesh, your solution is simple and does work, but there may be times were I would prefer to leave it toggled on (but still disable the shortcut).

But if anyone know a way to delete or replace default shortcuts please please let me know!

My suggestion was to assign the X key on the keyboard to something else. For me this removes it from Activate Symmetry. (You could create a macro that does nothing for this purpose.)

I can’t actually understand a situation where you would want Dynamesh on but no hotkey for activating it. You would then have to turn the Dynamesh button off and then back on in order to update Dynamesh.

Some shortcuts are hard-coded into ZBrush. The Dynamesh one is one of these.
