Cut hole through ear??

I have a question. How would you go about cutting a hole through an ear (in order to make an ear plug piercing hole)??

I know you can add geometry (example: the cylinder) and align in through the ear, and then set that subtool as a subtract, and then merge the head layer down with the cylinder, and then it becomes one mesh, and then you use dynamesh and that subtracts it out… however, then my resolution changes, and I don’t like that or want that to happen.

Is there a newer way/better way of making it work without changing the mesh resolution?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Depending on your low poly resolution. But you could use BridgeCurve
http://docs.pixologic.com/user-guide/3d-modeling/sculpting/sculpting-brushes/curve-bridge/

If you have ZBrush 4R6, you can try this: Use SliceCirc to slice the hole in your mesh, then hide the hole polygroup and delete geometry. Then use the CurveBridge brush to make a bridge between the two holes.

I found this in the ZBrush Docs - Curve Bridge Brush

I tried this on the DemoHead converted to a Dynamesh, and here’s how it looks:

Hope that helps!

EDIT: Oops, I was beaten to it!

Thanks for the help! Is there a way to do this symmetrically (with both ears at the same time??) It’s hard to get both the holes the same size and shape doing them separately…

Thanks! Can this be done symmetrically?? Like, if I wanted to do both ears at the same time? Or is there another way to mirror the new polygroup (created from the BridgeCurve brush) of the ear to the other ear??

tool.geometry.modify topology. mirror and weld.

Thanks! I got it to work.
