Create UDIM in ZBrush ?

I just purchased ZBrush, and I’m ready to learn! I’ve only used ZBrush as part of school a couple years ago and just recently at work. So happy I can dig into it at home, finally.

So to my question.

Let’s say I don’t have access to a 3D app to make a base mesh or UV map. Let alone, make UDIM for the UV’s.
Is it possible to create UDIM tiles in ZBrush alone, or does it require a dedicated 3D modeler app such as Maya or Modo for that?

I’m about to start sculpting a cave, and it will require several UDIM tiles because of the resolution I need for close up renders.

This should answer your question.

Okay, thanks. So if I get it correctly: yes, I’ll need a dedicated 3D modeling app to make the UDIM tiles.

Yes. Basically ZBrush can only create and display UVs that occupy the 0-1 UV space, with only one map being displayed on a subtool at a time. But you can import multiple UVs without them being destroyed, and then use the Multi Map Exporter to create and export maps based on polypaint and sculpting.

Let’s put “make UDIM tiles” on the wishlist for 5 then.
