Correcting an unwanted bumpy surface?

I hope I put this in the right thread… I’ve been trying to figure out how to properly correct and issue with the surface of my model being too bumpy in places where the surface should be even and smooth.

I’ve literally used every smooth brush available in ZBrush, and none of them are having the desired effect of evening out the surface. This is something that I really want to correct for the future, because I imagine that this will be something that would make it rather difficult to create a decent looking human or humanoid character, plus I bet it’d make the process of UV mapping and baking a little more challenging too.

Any smoothing brush in zbrush will do. That could actually smooth out poles on the mesh or it will brush to smooth the texture and remove bumps.

You can also try some of the options in the Deformation palette, such as Polish by Features, Polish by groups, Polish by Edges etc. Also try the Relax function in there. These can be sometimes heavy handed, so duplicate your mesh first and practice on that.

That’s odd, I tried both, and they didn’t seem very effective. The smoothing works, just not very quickly, and the Deformation tools had no effect… well they did work, just not the way I wanted. I’ve got a feeling that this is a very common issue that everyone deals with, and they just take the time to fix it over time.

Thanks for the tips!

The lower the subdivision level, the quicker smoothing works. Drop a couple levels down and do your smoothing. Then go up a level at a time.

zber2 is right. Basically, at lower subdivisions the smoothing works faster and with more intensity.

A simple solution to fix a simple problem… wow, should of thought about that! Thanks again for the advice!
