Copy UV's on to high res model

Hello everybody,

I have modeled an object directly in zbrush and made a retopology in order to use this low res model in maya 2012. My problem is regarding de UV’s.

I unwrapped the UV’s of the low res object and I want to copy them on to the high res model so they both have the same uv layout and the diffuse, and normal map exported from the high res model are correctly placed on to de low res model.

I have tried with copy/paste but or I have subdivisions or it just sais its incompatible.

Any idea?

Regarding retopology, my object is translucent and I get confused with the retopology lines from the opposite side of the object. How can I make it solid in order to see only the polygons.

Thank you!

hi, you have to subdivide your new uv mesh and project the original hi-res details onto that. As for retopo, I’m not sure why your mesh is transparent, I had that problem before , now that does not happen. Try binding the selected mesh in the zsphere’s rigging subpallet. I hope that works for you.

Oh I just found out that you may only need to upgrade zbrush to 4r3. To correct the retopo problem.

I unwrapped the UV’s of the low res object and I want to copy them on to the high res model so they both have the same uv layout and the diffuse, and normal map exported from the high res model are correctly placed on to de low res model.

I don’t think it’s going to be easy or perfect if the topology of the sculpt no longer matches your new low-poly. External programs such as XSI have tools that can attempt to transfer UVs between different models, but I don’t know of any way to do it in Zbrush.

On the plus side, the highpoly/sculpt does not need UVs at all in order to correctly bake a normal map or diffuse texture. The only mesh that needs UVs is the Low Poly.

Thank you all for the tips.

I have a new problem trying to project the details of the high res on to my low res.
I append the high res object on to the subtool pallet of my low res but for some reason both object don’t stand in the same position. They are way separate in my canvas.

I have tried appending the low res on to the high res, vice versa, exporting my low res as an obj and re-importing but the result is always the same.

Is there something I am doing wrong? I am following a tutorial step by step but it’s not working.
