Convert STL mesh to a Solid Body

Hi all,

So I build my models from other stl’s in zbrush, is there a way to export the stl
as a solid model with no facets?

Thank you…

HI @tom356 ,

A 3D mesh will always have facets at some level if you zoom in closely enough. You would need to smooth it via subdivision to diminish the appearance of those facets.

The simplest answer is that you can use Live Boolean or Dynamesh to fuse the model together. From there it depends on what your output goals are. This process may be very simple for organic meshes, or complicated for meshes with hard surface elements.

In order to answer your question without writing a book about all the possible variables when fusing meshes and subdividing them you would need to provide more information about the scenario:

  1. Is this a hard surface model? Low poly? If so the process is much more complicated.

  2. What is the output goal? Print or digital render?

  3. What do you need to do with the model? Simply get it into a slicer for pre-print work, or do you need to create textures or pose it?

Thank you!
