Conan The Barbarian (Some NUDITY)

tmb.jpg

It’s been quite sometime since I last post on the forum as I was so busy managing a CG team for a featured film here in Thailand.

Anyhow, this is my take on Frank Frazetta’s famous painting but also I heavily used reference from Prosthetic Renaissance version of the same depiction. (But decided to change the overall color direction of the render)

The Base was actually built in Sculptris and then quickly sculpted and retopologized in ZBrush

This actually a rate case for me where I didn’t start out my model in neutral pose…

As this piece’s set as a Diorama with Conan is the center piece of attention adn his mistress laying down (The original by Frank Frazetta’s http://www.internationalhero.co.uk/c/conan4.jpg). After I’m done with the Barbarian, it’s logical to move on to his mistress and all other props.

During this stage of development, some details are still left out so my machine won’t take all the hits.

Here’s the look of the mistress:

After the scene’s locked, I then started on detailing the Conan face.

Then off to Polypainting.

I heavily used UVMaster per each subtool then Decimation Master to get the poly size down before exporting them out as OBJs along with Texture Maps.

Here’s the test render in Modo with Forest as Backdrop

In the end I decided to go for a barren land look:

Thank you for watching. ZBrush is such an amazing tool. I must thank Alex Oliver, my anatomy teacher for everything I’ve learned and Pixologic ZBrush for creating such a wonderful piece of software.

looks superb. cheers. the sss effect is nice.

@moonlitmaverick, Thank you very much… Glad you like it.

Looks good!

GREAT art work! Loved it! Congrats.

Hey Yong, finally… so great to see some new work  Love the unpainted sculpt, the detailing and rendering looks like they’re coming together real nice :sunglasses: :+1: . Hope all’s well on your side

@Derek Frenzo, Thank you :smiley:

@MukulUppal, Thanks… glad to see you on here as well.

@Etcher, Thank you so much Etcher. This one’s a rahter quick sculpt …but a fun one when it comes to ZBrushing

The sculpt looks great! That bg however really bugs me… I mean… once I got past the first image, it really looked great. But the image and the sculpt just stand so far apart.

The BG image has more detail than your sculpt and blasts off into the distance, makes the sculpt look muddy imo.

Great work regardless

Great to see you back posting some work again!
The only thing that bugs me is the background. It should be out of focus and more “exotic”, in my opinion. Anyway great work! :):+1:

@BlazeF, you are absolutely right. This one I simply use the image as Backplate.

@Santis, Thank you for the comment.

I did a quick blurring (just to make the model stands out more)

Will need to actually revisit it one day

one of my favs of frazetta, think you could upload the painting so that we could compare?

@Framedworld, it’s one of my most favorites as well. The master’s work is so amazing and gives me such inspiration to do this piece. Again thank you for your viewing.

Here’s the original by Master Frank Frasetta:
