Cluttered Brush Quick Pick list

Hi,

New user here. I recently got started with Zbrush and am using a custom UI with favorite brushes docked in the bottom shelf. My issue is with the brush menu Quick Pick window, which becomes cluttered as a result. To better explain :

The standalone brush panel (the “B” popup) isn’t a problem, however when I dock the full Brush menu in the left tab the expanded Quick Pick is hogging that space. I tried using the “R” button to reset it to a reasonable brush count, however for some reason the shelved brushes are apparently locked in there. Removing favorite brushes from the shelf does also free up their Quick Pick slots, but the point was to have them close at hand in the first place.

Am I doing something wrong ? Is there maybe a way to collapse that quick pick panel ? Or maybe a way to dock individual brushes without locking them in the Quick Pick panel ?

I searched a bit and found a topic related to that same problem but didn’t want to resurrect it seeing how it’s 2 years old and the person didn’t find a solution back then.

As far as I can tell, this is normal when you add brushes directly to the interface. They are then always loaded.

To keep interface clutter down, consider using custom panels instead, for anything you wont be using all the time. Avoid cluttering your UI with situational items that could easily be called up from the Brush menu, Lightbox, or a custom panel instead. Learn the brush shortcuts. Understand that if you are a new user, you probably won’t yet know what you’ll be using the most.

Otherwise, this is just the community forum, and feature requests need to be submitted directly to Pixologic via support ticket.

Thanks for the advice. The UI is still full of surprises to me so I wanted to make sure I wasn’t overlooking anything blatant. Getting used to brush shortcuts sounds like the safest route at the moment.

As for custom panels, so far I’ve learned just enough about Zbrush to understand that I know nothing about it and shouldn’t get swamped in UI customization when I’ve barely scratched the surface. I will definitely look into them somewhere down the road after I have established a stable workflow, though.

And no, this wasn’t intended as a feature request.
