Best tablet for ZBrush ??

Does anybody know what brand of tablets are best for the newest ZBrush? I’ve been looking at some Wacom tablets and heard they were some of the best, but I wanted to make sure before I blow around $1000 for one…

Any wacom. 1000 dollars is a little overkill for a 15 year old.
You might lose interest in it. Get a bamboo or an intuos 3 or 4

Using an Intuos 4 Medium tablet here, and I LOVE it.
No more reaching for the keyboard all the time like I had to with the old Intuos2.

I’ve been saving my money for almost two years to get the Cintiq 12-inch, but I think I’m gonna take your advice get an Intuos or Bamboo. The Cintiq would be a lot more familiar and maybe more productive, but like you said, $1000 is a little much. On top of that ZBrush itself is almost $700, and if I still planned on buying the Cintiq plus ZBrush, I’d have a long way to go money wise…

tbh i prefer working with an intuos compared to a cintiq because i don’t like my hand getting in the way. and if your gona get a cintiq wait till you have money to get a 21" one, the 12" is pointless and a waste of money

Yeah, that was another reason why I was having second thoughts on the Cintiq. I have a cheaper tablet now, and I’ve had problems with that before. I thought the 21 inch would be like trying to draw on a cookie pan though. In the pictures it looked huge!

I disagree, but I see where this assumption comes from.

I’ve used the 12wx extensively. Not only is it a joy to use, it’s a solid built unit and a work horse. I have it attached to the Ergotron NeoFlex LCD arm, which allows for rotation and tilt. It also allows you to pull the screen up to you, rather than leaning to it. The screen may seem small, but it’s extremely hi res, more so than the 21ux. When you have the 12wx up close, as you would with a sketch pad, there’s enough real estate. It’s also nice having the interface near your hand for fast navigation.

Two things to take note of though. One, they are releasing a new Cintiq 21ux next month, so they may update the little guy soon. Two, the Cintiq improves the painting experience more so than sculpting. I still like to sculpt on it, but the 9x12 Intuos3 I use is just as good for ZBrush, in some ways better. For sketching and painting, that’s a different story though, especially if you have the LCD arm for rotation.

Regardless, I wouldn’t venture away from the Wacom Intuos or Cintiq product line.

its not an assumption. i used the 12" for a few days at the end of last year, for me it was just too small. my hands are big so it just became annoying that my hand was in the way the whole time. a 21" is awesome and worth it if you have the money, but i would just recommend to anyone if they are thinking of getting the 12" to save their money and get an intuos or to wait till they have the money to get the 21" cintiq

In contrast, I have not used the 21ux, and surely it’s awesome  However, I’m 6’6’’ and would look pretty funny with tiny hands. Like the guy in the Burger King commercial, except with tablets instead of $1 burgers…

Either way, I’ve gotten my dollar’s worth. It was purchased last summer, so the o.g. 21ux had been out for ~5 yrs. Wacom has actually revised and improved that one a few times since then, but I still wanted to wait for a new version. Now it’s coming out! (which is keeping the pig fed and me eating $1 burgers)

+1

hi , all i’am looking for know if one another way exist for modeling
like pad concept for try somethinks else mouse keyboard tablette ?

thanks

ZBrush 3.5 is $510 at novedge.com, or about $450 if you buy the software second hand (make sure the licence gets transfered over to you if you go this way.)

the medium Intuos 4 is $309 w/ free basic shipping at amazon.com.

good luck!

Lol I was way off on the price… For some reason I had it in my head that it was $600+. But recently I’ve been leaning more towards getting an Intuos. They’re almost half the price of the Cintiq, and being able to work directly on the screen doesn’t seem that important for ZBrush. Also, I was wondering if the Cintiqs could work as standalone systems. I watched a few videos and read about them but they weren’t very clear on that subject.

using a 460 euros intuos 3, absolute joy to work with.

I’m glad I didn’t go for a really big tablet though, because I found out I prefer to make small / short movements and sometimes even end up remapping the area of my wacom to be able to use even a smaller surface. Other people that have a very stable hand, prefer to have large surfaces to be able to make long lines/strokes.

Hey everyone I have a 21inch cintiq and i must say its amazing. Im just a university student but seeing a mainly use zbrush for my sculpting I felt it would be a good investment, took ages to save up for. Work perfect as a 2nd screen and I love that it can be used in so many applications such as maya and photoshop. Do not have any negative things to say about it what so ever.

To learn the whole thing, also a little graphire 4 works just fine. Even better than a mouse. Use it myself  Everything is done out of the wrist, without scretching over the whole big tablet of a 21" one
