Beginner Tips For A Noob?

I work at a computer animation company, but mostly do tape op work and some basic design. We do alot of 3D work, but I’ve never touched 3D software! I just started using ZBrush, so I’m still trying to grasp all the tools. It seems like a great program to learn and I’ve seen some FANTASTIC work here! Any advice on where to improve on this head? I know the cheeks are too fat, I’m worknig on that… I thought it looked a little like George Bush from the front, but more like a football player from other angles. Any pointers on where to go with it?

Hmmmm… best 2 tips I can give you are:

  1. Read the practical manual of zbrush and do the exercises -you can download it here-
  2. Search for real references -pictures, mirrors, drawings, etc- here’s a good link so you can get started on the poportions

Hope it helps for now

Good luck and keep on going… the more you practice, the more lost you’ll be  -my case anyway  -

I can recommend the practical guide too. It’s a great document, very long but you learn a lot with it. Also check out the artist’s in action series. Lots of great tips in them. And, Zack Petroc did an article over at Computer Arts Mag (LINK), it’s fantastic and has all his files you can open up in ZB to see his workflow. Pretty amazing stuff.

Good Luck!
