Baking Normal maps from highpolys: why xNormal?

Hi Zbrush community,

Many tutorials recommend using the free software xNormal to make normal maps.

I was wondering if any experienced artists here could tell me why this methos is better than letting Zbrush bake the normal maps.

I’d rather not add another software to my pipeline but if it’s good, then I’ll give it a try!

Thank you,

I’d like to know about that as well :\

I have limited experience in this, but have found that xNormal typically produces a better Normal map. Cleaner with less errors. However, it’s work trying both to see what works. The big benifit of ZBRush, is you cna just export all the different maps with virtually one click.
