applying displacement map to Maya fast skin shader

does anyone know how to apply the displacement map to the maya fast skin shader? im trying to use my displacement map in maya with sub surface scattering but the set up is different and when i drag the displacement map icon in hypershade over the SSS icon, where it normally says ‘displacement map’ it says ‘bump’ instead. when i select bump it brings up the connection editor window. whats going on? heres a pic of what i mean.

Click on the shading group node in your graph (furthest to the right) then open the attribute editor and expand the mental ray section. You should see a Displacement Shader slot in the Custom Shaders sub-section.

ive tried using this but it wont work. im i missing something? hope you can explain in details plsss.

Try this tutorial. Basically, you can’t add a displacement map via the Hypershade, with SSS. The slot appears in the attribute editor. You’ll see it in the tut. I managed to do it perfectly once, and the last time I tried it, total disaster.

jbakutis, what do you mean? “you can’t add a displacement map via the Hypershade” ? im confuse.

I am still figuring this out, I managed to get it working, and I have my scene(MB) saved, so I’ll get back to you about it. I didn’t forget…

I told you I’d be back. Actually, I’m surprised your displacement map doesn’t work, because the pic above is how I did it. That list of 3 things…where the green arrow is pointing. I just middle mouse click,hold and drag the “Displacement” box from the Hypershade right over to the Attribute editor(you’ll see a little “+” appear when it’s OK. Then drop it on in…
Did you try that?
Also, the Bump Shader works the same way. Well, let me know if you tried that or not.
BTW, how do you take screenshots from Maya, it would be easier to show.

it would be great if you can take screenshot. i use snag it or mr.captor. but you can use your screenshot in your keyboard. beside F12 (Prt Scr) in your keyboard.
