Apply Boolean Cuts on the same mesh without creating new SubTool

Hey guys, after you’re done previewing subtractions with Live Boolean mode, is there a way to apply those Boolean changes to the original model subtool? Cos hitting ‘Make Boolean Mesh’ throws it into new model which you have to reimport/append and is kind of inconvenient. Thanks!

Hi @Defonten

Many would appreciate that the tool acts non-destructively–it doesn’t destroy your original subtools in the process. This allows you to create many new tools from the same subtools, or make corrections easily. This is super helpful when doing things like setting up complicated series of cuts for 3d printing, where the same set of subtools in the boolean chain might be used to create a series of different interlocking shapes.

If you wanted to work in a more destructive fashion, you can also create booleans with Dynamesh, although this doesn’t produce quite the same kind of geometry as Live Boolean.

Otherwise, I’m not aware of a native way to do this with Live Boolean. Perhaps a way to auto append the combined U-Meshes could be arranged by scripting, but I’m no expert on that. You’d have to check over in the scripting forum.

If you have your booleans in a folder, you can click on its gear icon to have zbrush Boolean that folder (it will automatically append the resulting mesh). You can then delete all the subtools in the folder the same way.

Thanks a lot guys! May be I should just indeed get used to this non-destructive workflow instead… Thanks for the headsup!
