3D animation character - Avatar Freestyle

Love the movie so much!!! So I was thinking what a 3 meters guy can do if I have my own avatar. And here comes some fun ideas in my mind~ Rap and Basketball :sunglasses:

Here is a low poly animation character (20k) for a short demo of self avatar I made recently to mimic the cool Nike freestyle series. I used Zbrush for sculpting the model details and generating maps. The facial experssions were also done in Zbrush for animation blendshapes.

I would like to share some snapshots and facial blendshape of the avatar character in my first post in this forum:) .

The main workflow of this animation includes:

  • modelling, texturing: maya, zbrush, photoshop
  • rigging & animation (face, body, hands): maya, motion builder, vicon MoCap system
  • simulation (hair, braid, tail, ball, etc): maya
  • render: mental ray
  • composition: After effects, Premiere

The full animation can be found in the following links, Thanks for watching. Hope you like it!

Hehe, cool video :+1:

great job man…keep it up.:+1:

Weird and wonderful… geat work Eric. Can’t help but wonder how great a Navi vs Harlem Globe Trotters sequence would be

very cool stuff!! great animation:+1:

double post sorry… <delete this comment>

Very cool Video! :+1:

yeeah!!! awesome vid!!!

you used mocap data? nice vid and expression!

Thanks for your comments folks:).

This little project tooks me 3 month of spare time. About 2 weeks for modelling and texturing, one month for animation, two weeks for hair & cloth simulation, and one month for final rendering and composing.

Anyway, it’s a good practice for me to go over the complete pipeline of a simple animation from scratch. I may post some WIP notes to remind myself what I’ve been doing so far :stuck_out_tongue: and keep improving them.

to wethand: yes, I’m actually a computer science student having some experiences with Mocap research stuff. Some parts of the animation are combined from motion capture body data and keyframed facial/hand animations.

very nice

Some other snapshots from the high res demo:cool:

Hay Zither I’m really curious about something.
It is off topic I do apologize.
But the tattoo on his face well see I’m original designer of that flash and actually the original was a lil bit different the one your using was one I designed for my self and had tattooed on my back arm how did you come across it since the only person other than my self who had it is the tattoo artist could you fill me in on it.

By the way very nice animation with your navi. Nice simulations of hair also.

Hi, Converse. It’s been a while so I cant remember where exactly I got that tattoo from internet. I thought I just google ā€œfree dragon tattooā€ and find one as the base image.

Btw: that’s so cool to have such tattoo on the arm:+1: ,I would like to get one If my girl friend would not kiil me:laughing:

Amazing, + I’m noob in animation, so it’s Really a Big WOW for me :laughing:small_orange_diamond:roll_eyes:small_orange_diamond:+1:

Love the breaking matey…Really good stuff…
congrats…turned out really good.

Hi zither,
I am very amazed with you work… For me it is perfect. I started doing something similar two weeks ago and now I am stuck with texturing. Because I am new with Zbrush, and also like how you made a skin, can you share your metod of texturing and skining with me? I will be very very thankfull for that
Once more, GOOD WORK
