Velociraptor (New images added)

Thanks for the feedback guys. I see the ‘dino-spotters’ are alive and well!
I’ve currently revised the model a little and will post an update here soon.

Ok here is an updated slimmed down version of the velociraptor:

More views coming later.

The main claw seems to be now placed well (another sight ? ) because not no forget that the toe carrying the claw is on the straight line of the other fingers.

The general look is good. It is faster, nastier. =)
The texture is so real.
Very good work.Congratulation ! :+1:

Hi, I’ve been thinking about making a zscript as I’m not entirely sure how to make one yet! I was wondering if anybody would be interested in seeing one showing how I did the skin texture on this model?

Hi 3DP,

I for one am always interested to see how different folks approach things so if you are up to …do it! It will interest many and probably teach folks learning zbrush a thing or two too that will help shorten their learning curve.

The model looks pretty cool. Only question I have is I thought it was a middle toe that went up when they ran cuz it was longer and would get in the way instead of an outside one…but I am probably wrong…it’s been a while since I read anything about dinos:D !

Anyways ya did a pretty good job on him!

I’d love to see your tutorial on the skin texture.

Yong

Nice work!
Tutorials Always Welcome!
I like the way you did the arms.

Hi guys,

Its a while since I ‘finished’ this model and the only thing I will probably ever go back and change is the teeth from displacements to proper geometry if I want to rig it for animation. I tried to export it into c4d and the displacements went a bit crazy on the teeth. Aminuts the inside claw is the one that is held up, the feet were a pain in the arse all the way through modelling. Originally I thought the ‘stabbing’ claw was higher up the leg like a dew claw when actually it should be one of the three toes. The problem is every representation you see of a single species of dinosaur looks completely different! My model is based pretty much on the Jurassic Park interpretation.

I’ll try and get a tutorial done over the next few days. I’m busy babysitting a C4D multipass render at the moment, not done one before and its taking ages!

nice model.i love texture but my sight ; mouth is something scary became;)

I for one would love to see a texture tutorial. iseem to be struggling to get the look I’m after with zb.

Just one comment on the model. The lower jaw appears to have no muscles that would clamp it shut, much the same as if you clench your teeth , you can feel the muscles bulge . It almost looks to flat to me.

I did just have a scan on www and alot of the images of raptors do seem to have this look though. Maybe its just me that thinks a bit of muscle would look better. ANyway keep up the good work

el-d: I know what you mean about the jaw muscle. I have modelled it, it can be seen most clearly on the reverse perspective view. It hasn’t really shown up very well on some of the renders. The reference images i worked from of the jurassic park raptor don’t show much external muscle on the jaw either. Although when you look at it straight on you can see that the throat inside is quite narrow in relation to the outer surface suggesting that there is some substantial musculature on the jaw but is in’t all bulging out externally. I don’t really know enough about how the underlying skeleton lies in relation to the outer skin to explain it any more than that. Your guess is as good as mine! They must have had pretty big jaw muscles tucked away somewhere!

I’ve been busy finishing something else off so I’ll hopefully do the zscript over the next day or so.

Ok after a few mishaps I’ve finally got the zscript tutorial done. Click here to be taken to it in the tutorials forum.

Cheers

…cool work and tut

This model is very nice, I liked very much:D and you have good skill…
I would like tell, that you could make some deformation on the tail, because it´s hight.:+1: :+1:

Wow!:grimacing: thats 1 of the most amazing dinos i’ve ever seen! I’d say it allmost beats the JP dinos  and the texture is great!

Only a few suggestions from me: i’d make the snout longer and a little sharper and the body looks a little to wide(mostly at the arms and legs), also the ‘eyebrows’ should be a little longer and u should see a little shape like that on the snout itself too and a little more of a belly
but as dinofan i’m just refering to the anatomy of the ANIMAL and NOT the greatness of the MODEL ;)

Keep up the good work!
EDIT: just saw the texture script: great!!!:+1: but u might wanna keep the polycount down a little for ppl without 1 or 2 GB RAM

Thanks darkfire I’m glad you liked the model. However I ‘finished’ the model a while ago and will probably not be making any more noodle adjustments to it. As with all dinos a certain amount of licence is taken as nobody can produce a reference photo to work from!

It´s a really a good tex and model work, i like it.

You must animate the raptor

And insert it in a prehistoric jungle.

Cool

velo mod.jpg Compaired to some pics iv seen on internet ive made some shape modification that could be interesting for th general looking…

Never trust internet pictures of dinos…

Lol
