looks pretty good to me. The skin looks awesome
yeah this lighting really makes the eyes come to life.
It’s terrific! It is of the Ron Mueck self-portrait if I’m not mistaken. Ron’s stuff is giant sized, fiberglass / resin sculptures. He’s most famous for the giant infant sculpture installation art. I want to save up and buy a Mueck some time in my life, just park it in the foyer under the vaulted ceiling, let it peek out the upstairs windows and scare the neighbors.
Great job, great render, great subject matter!
ooooooh. this is looking nice. i love how bold and soft it is. great WIP. cant wait for finished product.
Glad you like it so far, still a long way to go …

Looks great besides the hard transitions
Nice. Looks a lot like the original too. cool model and cool renders.
Another test. I´ve worked a bit more on the overall shape of the model, tweaked the texture, shader and lighting. But I still need more color variations in the maps.
you’re getting spot on my friend. I love it. I hope you maybe take on some of his other pieces too. he might be interested to see it.
Thanks Framedworld
I know the look you are going for but in my opinion you actually had it nailed down really well in post “1 Week Ago 02:16 AM - I didn´t like the last light setting so much, so I went back to my first setup and try to improve that…”
Everything so far has been a step back in my eyes. The bump is less pronounced, I guess since you are going for the soft latex feel, but the lighting as lost appeal and feels rather bland now. The post I referred to above I thought you had actually nailed down a good shader with only minor tweaks necessary.
It’s your work, goes without saying, so you know what you are aiming for but that’s just from my perspective. I would guess you’ve stared at it for too long and instead of improving it you’ve gone backwards a bit.
You’re a good artist, keep it up and maybe just take a step back for a while and work on something else, then come back to this and maybe you’ll have a fresh perspective.
this is looking great!
Ron’s sculpt was made in fibreglass btw, looks the same as his silicone ones though,
well done
I like this mask (or face?) pretty much! it has a lot of character and reminds me of tf2 scout somehow :)))
Very cool - I am just about to the stage on my project where I will be diving into the VRay shaders for skin as well.
So far I have not gotten the displacement tests to come out consistently in the VRay tests I have done - have you had luck with that or are you just resorting to a higher level mesh like I have been doing for the profile shape and then normals from there upward?
Looks nice, maybe bit too translucent for my taste.
Hi my friend! Is big and great surprise to see your masterpiece again! Hope you are fine! The best for you!

tobbeo: Thanks for your feedback! I think that i prefer the lighting and shading in the latest renders. But i agree that it really lacks in bump and spec.
I think that a few tweaks on the spec/gloss settings will fix that.
The strong symmetrical sidelighting in the earlier rendering might look more dramatic, but isn´t really suitable for museum like scene, which I´m aiming for.
prosthetix: Thanks! Yes you´re right, I´ve read that they are made out of
fiberglass.
Uber: Thanks for your comment, glad you like it so far
hosch: I´m using the hipoly model with a bumpmap, but I think that I will try to use displacement for my next project. It´s really a pain to use the hipoly in 3dsmax. Thanks!
Montyband: Maybe a little bit too much sss, I will take a look at it again. Thanks for the feedback!
andreseloy : Hey, how are you, I´m fine! Glad you like it, I hope I can improve it a little bit more.
A little progress. I´ve started to work on the hairs to get an better feeling of the final character.
It´s my first day working with Vray Fur, still learning how use the tools, so the hairs are just roughly placed and far from finished(especially eyebrows, and some hairs that are poking through the ears ).
I will tweak the skin shader and textures later, want to take a break from that and get the hair done.
