My alpha bank is quite limited, I paint a lot of lines in PM using simple layer, work with masks.
I also use of lot of primitives (cylinders, cubes) and pre-made tools (3d plugs etc…).

dang dude. the evangelion head must be 100 million polys!!
my computer would crash instantly loading this model.
nice work man cant wait to see the final product!
WOnnn perfect parts Sébastien congratulations man ! and Thanks for show this !
Again, awesome update! Thank for sharing so much of your techniques on the workflow/alpha stuff
!
After being out of the British army for nearly three years I swore I’d never salute a man again, but you are an exception.
Your hard surface modelling techniques are an absoluter inspiration to all of us.
thank you
Peace
Thanks for your help.

This is really great. Evangelion was awesome, ive often thought about modelling unit 01 as well.
Heres a pic to give an idea of the scale in the anime if anyones interested. The scale does jump around a bit though depending on the scene, i think the “official” height is 40-200m so its clear no one really knows. But i think Seb’s height could possibly be over 500m.
What’s the poly count on that?
haha, yeah the head looks almost twice bigger than that
I was planning to use this bridge element to make a base to hold the head, but in smaller proportion, but I’m far from there…
Thx Ares
I’ll have a look at the polycount so far. My work PC is on the knees. I work part by part, with low res pieces for the rest of the head.
I’m still able to bring everything together to make renders, but its getting very slow!
Totyo, would you have suggestions for 3D printing? Ownage seems to do very clean models, and their last Batman look really nice and big…
Seb, just wondering if you have started using Decimation Master after one of your pieces is finished. It works really well for the organic stuff, I haven’t tried it on the mechanical work yet but if it does a good job you can keep your polycounts low and still retain the look of the hi res sculpt. It is like having a hi res proxy model.
Stuff is looking great by the way! Keep plugging away at it cause it is going to awesome when everything is done!
Peace-NickZ.
Looking great, Seb. If it were me, I would base the scale on one thing: the dummy plug, which should be just big enough to hold a person.
I’m glad you started to work on this model again. Thank you for sharing your techniques. Those details are pretty amazing.

This is stunning. I have been watching this thread very closely since the first tooth post. Thanks so much for sharing.
I am working on a vehicle that features similar style detailing, so I am going over each image you post again and again for tips and inspiration.
I have a small library of doodad objs and alphas built up, but I just can’t seem to get the crisp detail out of my projection master work like you do. My parts are just under 4 million active points, and I am just not getting the resosolution I want. I would be curious to know what your highest subdivision resolution weighs in at for one of these pieces.
Thanks again for sharing. Awesome stuff.
ownage for 3d printing. They do cheap prints and dont hold back on quality. I looked around for a while at a lot of different places but ended up going for ownage for the price and the fact that they hand paint them. only down side is they take up to 3-4 weeks to print and paint. this is a thread i found of some of their stuff thats not on their site.

oh by the way kick ass model. Cant believe how much detail is in it.
Seb : ca serait bien de pouvoir se coincer sur MSN, mais tu es toujours offline
Soulty666, I might deal with Ownage. I still have to see if sich a complex model is doable… I dont plan to paint it, I would like to keep it neutral bleu/grey with a sublte varnish to accentuate a bit the details if possible…
I’m almost done with the 2 side airs intake.
Heres a render of the ele;emts that compose it:
Dsl Totyo je suis pas souvent sur msn en ce moment…
Wow, this is absolutely great! Its my dream to model Ayanami Rei in her white costume some day
Man this piece is so crazy now I can’t imagine it when its all put together!! Will be hours of details to sift through
dude insane … as usual .
