Hey everyone! Here is one of my latest sculpts, done right at the end of the 4R7 beta.
I was asked if I had any character designs in the Disney style on my portfolio. I hadn’t, so chose one of Bill Schwab’s concept sketches from Wreck-It Ralph and spent about 4 days on this one. I really love the “Cartoon Modern” aesthetic, and it’s always a challenge bringing that 2D design language into the 3D realm.
The head was fully sculpted and retopologized in ZBrush. The body was half ZBrush, half Maya, where I modeled in a T-pose knowing that I wanted to rig and pose to match the desired sketch. Once I had my UVs laid out, I then set up the pose and brought the pieces back into ZBrush where I subdivided and added extra details. I also employed a tiny bit of Fibermesh for his short hair and eyebrows. Once I applied my textures, I then used the ZBrush to Keyshot bridge to send everything over to Keyshot. The skin was an excellent candidate to try out one of Keyshot’s SSS skin shaders. I toggled off their color texture and tweaked the settings to my desired preference.
Thanks for taking a look!
