snailien...

Thanks abyss. I gotta say, I am loving this guy more and more. You should throw some multimat surfaces on him to see how he looks. Maybe try some subsurface scattering stuff out. I’d love to see him totally finished. BTW, all of your color scemes look rad.

I really look forward to updates with this guy now  I hope he is in a movie someday

hey guys!

thanks for the nice words.

Jason Belec: thanks for dropping by. glad you like it.

baker17: thanks.

Kosher: your welcome. yeah! i hope to get to all of that, some day. i’m a bit busy bee at work atm., so there might go a few days more before next update.

hey all!

-finally i got a little update on this one, which i thought i’d show before i take a week in greece with my girlfriend  .

i’ve started texturing the different parts (but nothing i wanna show on the armor, atm.).
the body is the most finished one, though i think it’ll need a extra detail pass or atleast some more contrasted ones.
c&c is very much welcome.

I like the color chosen but yes, I’d have done the underside significantly lighter to add a bit of contrast and make the skin more interesting or added freckles or some other tonal variation to break up the skin more clearly. I think you have that but I don’t think it’s a high enough contrast to be noticed. Did I mention I wish I’d come up with this? It’s so cool.

Hey! Happy to see updates on this guy. I agree with the last comment. I think there needs to be more variation between the light and dark such that the belly is almost white in the very middle and the darker parts are very dark. The full gradiant.

For the sake of fairness, it might be worth mentioning that that matcap actually originated with Brian Silva. It’s called “Toxic Papa Wax” and it was originally posted by Brian in the Matcap Repository thread.

It’s one of the best matcaps yet, for sure.

Here’s the link to Brian’s original post.

I really like your Snailien the alien design. In the words of Borat, “Very nice!”

Awesome job. HEHE

cool character…i’m diggin’ the latest render…kinda reminds me of that old video game…‘earthworm jim’.

:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

hey gang!

Teyon: thanks alot man. too kind. i hope you like the new render. i corrected the contrasts a bit more, as suggested. Kosher: thanks man. hope i've corrected some some of the things you suggested. iImagine: yeah! thanks for the heads up. and a huge thanks to brian for the material. Webhead: heheh.. thanks. skinnybonez: hehe. thanks. i'm actually not too kean on it myself (but i'm starting to like my newest one). btw. earthworm jim is so cool. here's a few new picts. i worked a bit more on the different maps and got to do some texturing on some of the armor-parts. still alot to do...

That’s cool. Looks like it would fit nicely into Star Wars Episode II (I meant that in a good way).

Looks awesome! A few critiques on the surfacing:

I love the contrast on the skin now (perfect!). I would add some subsurface scattering and maybe a dark green color to the subdermal scatter (just to give it the look that he has some density).

The black around the kneck and around his waist area is too flat. I would probably use a lighter color and something less contrasty. The belt buckle also needs a bit of detailing. Maybe a higher res and some alien sort of space federation logo?

The fingernails look awesome.

The lines you have on the front of the metal chest plate thing look asymmetrical. I think I would remove those or add some kind of bolts or like this:

You could also add the dust, scratches and dirt like you see in the image above. The white, llike you had before, might look really cool with the space shuttle type of texture. Lots of good space ideas there.

I also picture him holding a sidearm like the glass and metal one here:

Good luck and I hope to see more updates!!

He’s great! I love the design… I love the idea… I love the style…

hey guys!

Teyon: hahahahahahahah… -i’ll take that as a compliment then:D
as i remember there where some pretty cool creature designs in it. but a crappy movie, imo. (not trying to start a star wars flame thread).

Kosher: thanks alot for all the crits man. some good points.
he actually got some sss on him, but maybe i could cranck it up a notch.
as for the belt and neck piece, id kinda like the very contrasted look, but i’ll sure try to make a brighter one.
the two lines on his “main armor” are meant to be asymetrical, but i think i’ll a third on, just to make it clearer.
when i have done all the textures 95% (or so) i’ll add dust and scratches. it’s already on my list:)
man that last link is so cool. there are some really cool guns. my initial idea was actually, for him to have something like “the noisy cricket”. not sure if i’ll do that or just stick to the “sling” he’s having now.

THRAWN: thanks alot

Wow I love it!!!

From witch Planet it came from…?

:+1: :+1: :+1: :+1: :+1:

hehehehe… good question.

c&c is as always very welcome.

Hi abyss103!

Very Cool!.. I think only two possible improvements about your alien… Snailalien

First: I suggest you to improve the shading of all for creating a more point out of the varius materials (… the specular of metal or that you prefer…).

Second: A bit of bump on the metals part… are you agree?

Also… I think is very nice alien… like a Ratchet & Clank enemies… (I hope you would be liking that comparison)

P.S.
Excuse my English…

Man, this model is freaking awesome.
Definitely not a regular ZBrush humanoid model with extras horns and spikes on it.
Great imagination and top execution!

hey you two!

piz: thanks alot for your suggestions. i diffently tweak the armor shaders some more. they actually got some bump now, but maybe it should be more visible.

Svet_P: thanks alot for the kind words. helps me going a bit longer
