love the Jordanesque tongue.
That’s pretty good! I’m not understanding the lighting design about the head and mouth area… is there actually a light right in front of his face?
Wonderful and whimsical, though!
I love it. That’s a great model and popping final image. The fur is really pleasing to the eye in both the sculpted and rendered version. Painted fur in photoshop or Hair and Fur in max for the final?
This is friggin’ awesome! GREAT character! great render! the only thing for me is the foot holding the numchuck looks twisted in a way that not sure a monkey’s foot could twist. would also like to see the other foot be a bit more flexed, toes spread, dynamic. Still though, all around awesome!
too cool!

Very cool monkey, great work!
AWESOME JOB !!! this is texture or polypaint ?
The design of the character is very nice, but the end product (render, comp, etc.) is ridiculously good. Excellent work.
thx everyone,
The monkey was poly-painted in zbrush, and the hair was painted in PS.
That is awesome and inspiring. Such an eye popping render.
Those are the apps I hope to master to the degree you have to make some of my future projects.
A few questions if you don’t mind.
Are you using normal maps or did you decimate the character?
If you’re not animating how important is retopologizing your zbrush work?
Is it needed with a still image like this?
If you do retopo can you point me to any tutorials or the like for 3ds max.
Anything you’d like to share about the creation of this I’m all ears.
I love this monkey. Everything about him screams awesome. Even the “Goku” color scheme.
wow amazing work! that looks awesome
Hey Prosthesis,
I used decimation master for the character. Normal maps weren’t needed for this project. And I feel that it is unnecessary to retopologize since it is just a still image. If animating, of course retopologizing the mesh would be needed.
I only retopologize for animation/game characters. But, you should check out the superhero contest thread. There are some great examples using zbrush, but in Max I have used polyboost. I’m not sure if the latest max has incorporated polyboost’s tool set. You can also look into Topogun. A few colleagues like it, but I have never tried it.
and btw thx for the compliments
So AWESOME!!!
Thank you for the info and congratulations on the image.
