What a lovely set of game characters.
I am following all your printing experiences with highest interest.
Thanks for sharing!
Nice and interesting!
Wow, that print is amazing!
Do you have photos of the game pieces from before you painted them so we can see the print quality? They look great, but at that size the paint adds a very thick layer to the pieces. It would be great to see what they looked like right out of the machine. Thanks!
@ItbeRufus: sorry for the delay of my answer, I didn’t noticed your reply in my thread.
Here is a closeup photo. You can see the size based on my thumb.
On another subject, I have now a Replicator 2 printer since few days and I should post some more prints soon. Totally different style than what you can do with the Form1 of course
Your skills at the highest level. Just - excellent!
A current work in progress, in fact, a deviation from another project: “Nya-Nya”
The hairs and cat-ears have been sculpted really quickly before switching to the pre-printing process (model hollowed with the Create Shell function and decimated with Decimation Master).
Then it has been printed quickly with a Form1+ at its lowest resolution, 100 microns. It lacks some sanding, but I wanted to visualize the shape before moving forward…
great model and great print!
even with the lowest resolution it’s a pretty nice print!
I’ll buy one of those! Good stuff.
Great! tough she’s very big! grey color is THE way…
Hey,
Really cool work, Just went through the whole Sculpt-o-book page. Enjoyed it.
Keep it up m8.
Japan hosts one of the biggest Figurine events in the world, Wonder Festival (60 000 visitors in just 7 hours, twice a year). I was lucky enough to attend this year’s event and give a presentation which involved ZBrush for the figurine creation.
The following images is the piece I presented at the festival. Just to put this into context, during the day I was busy working on the development of ZBrush4R7 and at night I was working on this project. The total time spent on the project was approximately one week (~40 hours, mostly at night), including model preparation, printing and quick painting. I finished the prototype just 3 hours before jumping on the plane to Japan.
This is the first iteration of the model. I’m hoping to improve the quality and the details when I have the time.
Here is a video which focuses on the making of the model. I completed two poses for this project. The first pose has been fully recorded, which represented 8h20 of work. I didn’t record the second pose, because of the lack of time (and sleep :p)
Subtitles are available in english and french for the comments.

100% done in ZBrush, printed on a Form1+ at 50 and 100 microns (no time for 25 microns), with the MadeSolid Red V2 resin.
Here are some photos… Please, don’t look at the figurine base, because I sculpted a complete towel but had no time to print it before leaving for Japan. In the photos are just portions of that towel. My next version of her will not have the towel style base.
I just watched your video, THAT WAS AMAZING!
Very very fun to see how you did this!
Thankyou!
---- also, whats that music?! Its GREAT!
Amazing job and really cool tips. Thanks for posting that!
Great job !
It’s so sexy. :)
This is some extra images of the model in ZBrush :
The exploded view of all the parts. It is not visible in this image, but several parts have been hollowed with the DynaMesh.
Some larger views:
The model laks of more extra details here and there, but I had very little time to produce the model. I finished applying the primer painting just 3 hours before taking the plane for Japan…
Love that thumbnail.
During the process, I printed several iterations of the model, just to check “in the real world” the proportions, but also preparing the future cut of the different parts (hairs, face, etc.)
Printing the model below confirmed me that I had a proportion issue with the head/body, but also which part I had to rework on the body shape.
About the first pose (visible in the video in one of my previous post), I was totally unhappy with it, but it hasn’t been the first time that I was unhappy behind my screen, but then having a different vision of my model when printing. Then I did a really quick print of the model, without preparing it, I mean, no cut, no support optimization, just a real quick print.
Then I did a print with the Form1+ at 100 micron and in just 5 hours, I had my model.
You see the result. All the marks/damage spots are the marks of the support. It doesn’t look nice, but it was enough to confirm my feeling. Then I switched to my other pose.
When the second pose was done, prepare, I started the product part (which is time consuming by doing all the cuts and adding keys. This part isn’t complex, but you need to take care of where you want to cut, how, and where you want to have your printing support, to avoid having support marks on unwanted areas. For this model, I also tested the resin from MadeSolid (Red V2) which turn out to be a great one, associated with the Form1+ from FormLabs.
This is the result out of the printer, before sanding and stuff. This is the pre-prototype, printing at a smaller size, done to check that all the part assembly was OK, no support issue and no printing issues. Since the final model is 30cm long, I didn’t wanted to wait hours of 3D printing to discover that some
Thanks so much for all this information!
Looks excellent!
Btw. I guess one need an extra room for these printers, due to chemicals etc?
Anyway, I really enjoyed your video. A pleasure to see how precise work stands behind this figurine.
Cool!
I really like your sculpts. There’s something about the way you create hair, especially, that appeals to me.
