Superb.
I trust the king is happy with his portrait.

Fantastic!
What do you mean “very preliminary”?! My God, it looks stunning already!
Can someone tell me who this Mr. Baker is? I’m quite new to all of this, so if this man is a genius I would like to see why.
I’d make the eyelids a bit thicker and less sharp, especially the lower ones.
And I guess… that’s about all the critique I can comoe up with
Outstanding. Wonder what Rick thinks
Wonderful work, looking forward to seeing the final product
hey thank you for your answer man, i’m actually tweaking up my face.
Kris, my DSL line has been out for weeks when I finally get to check out zcentral what do I see but me . This looks great! I was wondering if you were ever going to get a chance to get back to it. Can’t wait to see it totally finished. I appreciate this even more now as I am making a model of my own head as a teenager and having a hell of a time at it. I can rationalize that I don’t have the good photo reff like I sent you. But I think in reality you are just much better at this. It is interesting to see how my face has changed in 40 years. Scary! Anyways,Great job as always.Hope things are going well for you at home. I’m honored that you would take the time to do this.
Rick
Thank you all for your kind words!
Rick,
I just can’t thank you enough for your words. It’s my pleasure and a heck of challenge to make this work but surely a great experience and learning opportunity. It’s surely more. To make something good enough as a homage to a master like you, a huge inspiration since I was very young, is even harder and challenging to me. The references you sent me were very important to improve the model! Thanks a lot for that! Even if the images didn’t have a great resolution, they served as a great source, even as color base for the textures painting. I hear you about how hard it is. Everytime I look at the model I just think it looks so different and I feel I need to tweak it more and more. It will take me some more time but I can see lots of areas that can be improved and I’ll improve it until I have something the way I think you deserve. Pictures are great references but nothing better than the real person for the details. So, I think you have the best reference you will find… a good mirror!
I can’t wait to see your teen self-portrait. I bet it looks awesome!
Thanks a lot Rick, for your post and inspiration. More to come!
Best!
-Kris
I think this is so awesome and I mean no disrespect. But, I think the eyes are a bit off. They look a little puffy to me. I have been viewing images for a while now and playing in p-shop and the eyes seem off. I dont mean to be dissrespectful. But, The eyes Just drive my attention to them and seem to be a little off of what they should be . and the hairline is too high. Maybe I am wromg and I apologize for my qritique. Since Rick himself posted on this topic. That is just my observation when looking at the pics.
truely inspiring kris!
i recently did a job modelling a celeb, who has passed away, with hardly any descent reference as far as modelling reference, and it was totaly the most challenging thing i have done! you have done an incredible job here!
thank you for always sharing your work!
keep it up mate!
…is very meticulous
Well, now I know who Rick Baker is! (offcourse, I already knew what he looked like ;)) Seeing the impressive list of movies he was involved I’m surprised I didn’t learn the name before this moment. I must be a near hermite! Is there a website that shows Rick’s work? I could only find text based sites. I could do with another sip of inspiration!
From the start I should tell you that you are an extremely talented artist, and I enjoyed your success story quite a lot. It’s heartwarming to hear about someone following their passion, and when something good comes of that effort. Congrats to you, you earned it!!
About this piece… It is a great study. Full of character and realism. It’s beautifully executed, and rendered nicely. It looks so much like Rick. Along with him being an extraordinarily talented artist. He is kind, sharing, and generally a good person, which is always refreshing to find out about ones inspirations. He is the sole person I was inspired by as a child to pursue my dreams, and was kind even when I was just a 16 year asking him to autograph my STARLOG with him and his “Incredible Melting Man” work on the cover many years ago. He continues to inspire today.
I guess what I am trying to say is you picked a good person to model and pay homage to.
You are very, very, talented yourself, and I enjoy following your work a lot.
Keep it up!
Cheers,
~Mr.M
Kris, i’m very interesting - what are your hotkeys preferences in Maya for modeling?
sorry for my English
Antropus,
perfect!!!

Kris: You continue to amaze me with every work that you post…
This one is a personal favorite though. You captured Rick’s personality, not just his likeness. Big, Big props for that…
As far as your comments on fixing the areas that aren’t working for you, don’t
micro manage TOO much as you might end up drifting too far from what you want. That’s one of my failings as an artist when I do characters. I always noodle too much…
Anyway, you are a great inspiration to me, my friend…
Hope all is well,
Dickie
This is awesome! I just saw Rick Baker on the Ed Wood DVD. Awesome movie, really looking forward to seeing his movies. Rick Baker is an actual member here?
Incredible!!!
